I had a long conversation with a (OSU) friend of mine, who made several compelling points as to why he didn't believe Dooley was the man to take us back to where we all want to be.

I had my sound arguments as to why I think he can, though I am far from certain that it will turn out like I hope.

Therein lies his point, however, stating that we should "KNOW" we're going to win X game or be in a position to play for X championship or X bowl. We have no certainty right now, other than the fact that I certainly bleed orange, I suppose.

All that said, I'm just curious how VolNation is feeling right now. I do realize it's a subjective question, and it's one season into his tenure, and it's blah blah blah, variable this and unpredictable that. What's your take on Dooley so far?

Cannot be determined at this time, IMO. Dooley should be evaluated on year 3...not his first 2.

Well it is easy to determine if he is or not after his time is up. What are your feelings at this point? I feel he has the proper path to get it done.

Did Texas KNOW that they were going to be terrible last season? No. This is a meaningless thread.

I want him to succeed, therefore, I picked yes. Whether it happens or not is yet to be seen. As has been stated, if we get nothing in 2012 then I'll be disappointed.

As I have said numerous times, IMHO, Dooley was(and still is) the best answer we could have hoped for at this particular point in the great history of Tennessee football. All the intangibles he has brought to the table will pay us dividends for many years to come whether or not he is the long-term answer or not. I do realize there are many who only want to view the facts that his record as a HC is still tipping the scales on the wrong side of the W-L chart and that he hasnt won any 'big boy football' games yet, that we put too many men on the field along with some other stupid freshman mistakes last year, etc. They are right, but it was LaTech where he built that record, he had to play the toughest schedule we have had in a long time with the least talent and experience we have had in even longer, and had to do it with a brand new coaching staff, several of which had little to no SEC coaching experience. I say we will know much more by this time next year but I agree he really cant start being judged until

years 3 and 4. But if you are just looking for what we are feeling or, more to the point, hoping for, I truly believe CDD is gonna be able to get us back where we want to be as long as we are being realistic in what we are wanting. I just want to be back at that point that I can be confident we have a legitimate shot in any game on our schedule and/or anyone we may be matched up with in a bowl. I believe wholeheartedly Dooley can do that. We shall see.

At first, I didn't like the Dooley hire at all. Was against it 100%. However, Dooley proved himself to be a pretty interesting and engaging coach, even if elementary level math was somehow out of his grasp.

I'm still not convinced of anything. If Dooley is coaching the Vols in 4 years, it will either be because that he turned out to be a pretty good coach, or that we still haven't been dissatisfied with his performance. So, I voted no.

However, I do have a friend who plays on the team. When I asked him if Dooley was a better coach than Kiffin, he responded with a very quick and direct "yes".

Enjoy your opinions but seriously cant keep up with your teams, USC now UNC, that's like the one two crotch punch for Vol fans in 2010.

This is going to be fun to explain...and will most likely derail the thread into a "Nick is a bandwagoner" (which some are of the opinion of anyways).

Root for USC in football, root for UNC in basketball. Don't care for USC basketball, or UNC football, so I hated Tennessee getting screwed by the officials as much as anyone else. Matter of fact, I kind of dislike UNC in football for some strange reason.

Edit: I sometimes wonder if VN thinks I do it just to be an incendiary pain in the ass.

I think Dooley will win championships. These people don't get it. He took over a football program that was a mess. Is he a better coach than Kiffin. YES Kiffin had talent on the team when he took over. When Dooley was hired he took over a team that lost it's whole Ofence line, starting QB.RB. Lost Rogan and Berry on Defence plus some more and won one less game than Kiffin. When we get some players to work with you will see.
