In your opinion, are Vols even preseason top 25 at this point?

Will Tennessee be preseason top 25?

I'm a lot more interested in where we are ranked POST-season. Honestly, I'm seeing us in the 7-5 - 9-3 range this year. 8-4 lands you around 20th for an SEC schedule come seasons end. All of a sudden a position of projected strength is now an unknown without a lot of upside projection. 7-5, a garbage bowl, ranked outside the top 25, and much weeping and gnashing of teeth would not surprise me at all at this point.

Pre-season we'll get a name recognition bump to be at 20-23 IMHO.

Unofficial numbers say you had 18 players leave in the portal, and signed four (with additional new players added). How can you possibly tell where you ought to be ranked when a quarter of your team goes to the portal and is replaced by transfers-in, plus newbies?

(Note: I'm not provoking you. UF is only in slightly better shape in terms of stability, with 5 incoming portal players, and 13 scholarships players having left).
It's mind boggling how we seen nothing but daily headlines about another Vol player jumping into the portal for a month and half, yet half the threads on here keep asking where we rank, how we'll do, how we compare to other teams etc. We don't even know who's settled and who's leaving but folks still gotta get our future win/loss

Yeah. You UFers were ready to run your coach off for half the year last year. If Lagway goes down for any reason Billy’s seat will get real hot.

I’m not trying to provoke you either but Florida is a hot damn mess.

You forgot a few things you can count on under Heupel (With only a couple of exceptions during his first season) : Beating every team not named Georgia at home, winning all our regular season non conference games, and beating Kentucky and Vandy no matter where we play. So, that would come out to a minimum 8 wins and only needing to beat Mississippi State on the road to get to nine.
It’s about time we beat bama/florida on the road. Both those games will be tough but I’ll be disappointed if we can’t get 1/2

I mean, we are gonna be an 8-4 type team this season so I would anticipate we will be flirting with the lower regions of the rankings all season.

I would anticipate a bowl blowout of some "formidable" B10 team we beat by 35 or so and a final ranking of 15 or so.

D Line is not getting better this year after losing its 3 best players and replacing them with honorable mention Great Lakes conference guys. It should be a decent line but won’t be close to as good as last year.

I think we are probably ranked in the preseason Top 25 based on being a playoff team last year. I think we will finish the regular season either barely in or barely out of the top 25. I was thinking 8-4 before Nico left. Now I’m thinking 7-5 and 8-4 are equally likely.
I actually think we will have better qb play this year than we had last year. I was not impressed with Nico overall.

8-4 is not the floor. Even in 2022 when we went 10-2 in the regular season, we won three games on the final play. Last year we went 10-2 in the regular season and could have lost 3 of those wins. The floor is missing a bowl game. I doubt we hit the floor though.
The floor absolutely isn't 5-7. Utterly ridiculous, as usual.

I still think the floor is 9-3. It really depends on the new QB and how he adapts to the new system.
Nico was not a world beater last year and I was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt this year before he left, but it was Sampson and the defense that carried the team last year.
