I must commend the Sports Animal today. Dave Hooker is absolutely killing Fulmer. While a little late, it's good to see at least portions of the Knoxville media finally seeing the light.

What did he say?
He's mocking Fulmer's constant blather about how much he "loves UT." He's all over him about the fact that, apparently, $6 mil isn't enough for him to make a couple of fundraising phone calls.

Yep, I work here at UT and I know that a lot of the faculty are especially upset about this. There are most likely going to be a lot of layoffs, especially among non-tenured faculty here. It really is upsetting even though they say the salary he's going to be making will be funded from private donations.

It's yet another example of Petersen's public relations brilliance.

I don't care if it was 50,000 for three months. The amount of money he is pulling in with private donations is nearly 40 million dollars, up from 16 million when he was getting started in 1994.

Give me a break, when it comes down to it, anything is life is a business decision and the guy who can create 10 million in 3 months, and seeks a 30,000 contract seems like the best business decision for the University.

That's a curious number to have access to... How'd you come by that?..

I would love to see anything that remotely resembles proof that Fulmer is responsible for that increase in donations.

Yeah, how do you know these numbers? Making them up randomly or are you an "insider?" Are you Peterson? OMG! :pepper:

I don't give a crap about the money but it does say a lot about the character of Peterson and Fulmer towards the university. My big problem with this whole deal is Kiffin has to endure Fulmer looking over his shoulder. If the cat calls for "bring back Fulmer" start and we all know they will, I would run straight to Johnny Majors if I were Kiffin and embrace him.

My wife is in the nursing program at UT and they're having to cut the number of students they accept from 115 to 45 this coming year....

And from what I've read it would only take about 600K to keep the program where it's at...

Yet we're going to cut a program that produces people ready to go straight to work in a profession that is severly understaffed...but Fulmer still gets his 6 million and this new salary...

I know, I know....the two are funded differantly and therefore aren't related....but in the grand scheme of things its completely screwed up that we're paying him 10K+ a month to make some phone calls when professors that are very much needed are being let go all over the university

that sounds good.....but tell that to someone that is or just has, going to lose their job.......and one then really has to wonder.....with all that money coming in, and being able to find the extra money to pay Fulmer, over and above the 6 mill he's already getting, how is it i'm out of work again????

I thought it was pretty interesting/kind of sad that they had to include an agreement in this deal where Fulmer doesn't interfere with the football program. Almost like he had to be told not to do so.

Included in the deal was an agreement that Fulmer would not “interfere in any way with the activities of the university’s football team or athletics department and shall not discourage the current members of the football team from cooperating in the transition to a new head football coach, from remaining active members of the team and from playing to their full potential in all competition events.”

The agreement also says that Fulmer is prohibited from contacting or discouraging recruits being pursued by UT as of Nov. 30.

That's exactly where this is going. Given my ancestry, I look forward to the upcoming factional warfare. It's going to the the University of Tennessee, with Hamilton, Kiffin, et al, against the University of Fulmer crowd, led by Fulmer, Thorton and Co.

Let Kiffin struggle for a few games and how long will it be before the bootlickers in the local media (Hyams) sticks a microphone in front of Fulmer and ask "What would you be doing different coach?"

One caller equated it with blackmail where some of the big money doners told Peterson to take care of Fulmer or the money stops. As if Fulmer wasn't "taken care of".
