This is the first time I can remember when our team did not look prepared to play a game. Our team looked completely caught off guard for how fast and physical Appy State was. Frankly, we got bullied last night. They came here to win, not just collect a paycheck and honestly, they deserved to win. We looked soft compared to App State, as if CBJ ran a very light camp this summer which affected our team's toughness.

We need to find OL answers and soon. I know everyone wants to criticize Dobbs but he was running for his life all night long. App State lived in our backfield almost the whole game. We looked bad but I think some credit needs to be given to Appy's defense. They were smaller but they were fast and physical. I give a lot of credit to that coaching staff for having them ready to play.

Defensively, despite only giving up 13 points, I'm concerned with how much yardage we were gashed for on the ground. That should never happen against a Sun Belt team. Had this been Alabama, LSU,or Georgia we would've gotten absolutely mauled!

As of now, this team simply is not ready to take next step. I predicted 10-3 with a bowl win but not with how we played last night. We were lucky to steal that one. I mean damn lucky.

I just don't see us playing this bad in any other game this season. We got caught looking ahead to Bristol thinking this was gonna be a cakewalk. This was 100% mental, the players weren't into it.

It happened last year against Western Carolina and then against Alabama we held them to 2.79 yards per attempt (42 attempts) for their lowest rushing output out of 15 games they played.

I'm not arguing that we were not focused; I don't think we were, but lets be real, it's not likely we're going into a game against Alabama, LSU, or Georgia not being focused. jmo.

(well, okay, maybe Georgia). :)

4-6 vs UGA the last 10 seasons. Might want to focus.

In 4 years I still don't know what the heck this "spread offense" nonsense is. I remember him saying it would be similar to the 49er's team a few years back that went to the Superbowl. Well, we look nothing like that. And our hurry up/no huddle is a joke. If you're going to sub on every play, then what is the point?

4 years in and we don't look much better. Have we improved? Yes. But with this talent we should be having our way with teams.

We beat you guys 4 times in the last 10 games? Damn. That's bad. We haven't been able to beat any of those other big guys 4 times in the last 10 years. This may be a bigger challenge for us to get focused than I thought. :)

Momentum was HUGE. That first defensive series was excellent the crowd was exploding. Then the senior leadership blew it. Sutton and Reeves-Maybin passed up the NFL for one more year, and both made horrible early decisions that flipped the momentum like I have never seen before.

Tennessee tried to sleep walk through this game while playing not to get hurt. Dobbs didn't appear to have the option to run because they didn't want to risk injury. This team was looking forward to Bristol and got caught. Now there are some real concerns especially on the OL and Dobbs still hasn't improved. But this team has learned it can't just roll the ball out there and win.

Bragging on a 6-4 record in what was UT's worst decade long drought in our lifetime isn't something to hang your hat on. But being an underachieving Dawg, you have to sing your praises however you can get them.

You beat me to it. I was about to say they exact same thing.

Our D-line was obviously way over hyped. Not what I expected at all. Getting manhandled on both lines of scrimmage by a pretty good App State team is embarrassing for a team everyone picked to win the SEC East. The SEC is a line of scrimmage league and if ours ( both) don't play better than they did last night we will be lucky to win 7 games.

They only people who thought this game was going to be a cakewalk were posters on VN.

I'm honestly extremely tired of posters like you blaming Dobbs performance on the o line. He had adequate time on the majority of his throws and they just weren't accurate. Did he have to scramble a few times, yes, but if you expect any team to not scramble a couple of times a game you are setting the standards too high.

He was inaccurate again and this, in my opinion, is his worst game I've ever seen him play. The pic was ridiculous and he almost did it again late in the game when we were backed up. It's a miracle App State didn't pic that throw to seal the game. Terrible decision making.

Regarding the defense this was my biggest concern about Shoop. He was calling run blitzes all night long and App State was running right where the blitz came from. We blitzed a corner once, did not roll the safety over and then ran an option to that side for a huge gain. I feel like we would have been better off not blitzing and staying in our gaps. However, it's hard to argue with 13 points - 6 of which came off Sutton's muffed punt.

They had the same yardage against Clemson last year and the back had over 100 and returned 8 starters. This was their Super Bowl. D played well particularly after adjustments. Shoop adjusted well. O Line is very concerning

And everyone on here was guilty of it too.

I know, the coach is supposed to prevent that.

CORRECT:

J Dobbs did not execute very well. Occassion pressure, but mostly poor execution and decisions.

The running back had to deal with early contact for the entire game. O-Line did not get a push, even late in the game.

Defense, 13 points only. If we give up 13 point per game, best in nation. Not sure about 1st half, but the expected D showed in the 4th quarter.

Offense, 20 points only. Honestly, I expected about 35-42 total, with upside. Simply, poor execution of a limited game plan

Last night was brutal. It was ugly. It was stressful to watch. Either app state is good, or we just flat out over looked them. We have really good players and I refuse to believe it's us being over rated or bad.

We haven't been top 10 in forever, it was Thursday, and the biggest college football game in history is next week.

App state gave us their best shot, va tech will give us their best shot. We have to understand that people want to upset US now. Not the other way around.

I hope we get it together quick but I'm upset if butch and co called a vanilla game on purpose. We were an extra point away from a season being over before it started.

I thought that offensive play calling was about as vanilla as it can get. I kept thinking we were setting something up by calling the same four plays over and over, but no...we were just calling the same plays and executing them poorly for the most part. On our first drive with all the passes I was sure we were getting in a rhythm, but after that it was all gone...uninspired lackluster play calls and execution.

Debord can call plays like a football savant and if the OL doesn't execute then most of the type of plays you guys are wanting to see will blow up. The OL IS THE PROBLEM. Now whether its the talent level or the OL coaching I'm not smart enough to determine the difference. Doesn't require much intelligence at all to see our center on his butt and the NT constantly in our backfield. It wasn't Appy's defensive scheme, their smaller DL just lined up and beat our bigger OL's arse plain and simple as that.

Also, Appy's Cox is a good RB with exceptional vision who constantly found running lanes where it appeared none existed.
