How many true contributers are in state? I'm at work and don't have time to look it up. Also what was the link posted the other day saying the state of Tennessee could be 3rd or 4th in recruiting output?

Tennessee has a small amount of good recruits but it's still more than most states. There are about 7-9 states that produce more talent if I recall correctly.

There are around 17-19 guys on the roster from Tennessee who are expected to contribute this year, there might be more but we'll wait and see.

I count 19 guys that are either starters or have played significant snaps depending on how you look at it. Drew Richmond is on the list, no freshmen.

Not sure about the recruiting reference. The state is not that high on any list but I was looking at that the other day and the numbers of D1 signees
doubled from 2012-2013 so we're making good progress.

I think with the recruiting hotbeds also moving into central and east Tennessee helps matters. For the longest time, Memphis was about it when it came to major recruiting locations in State. But lately we've seen a lot of talent coming out of the Nashville and Knoxville area. Some from the Tri-Cities, but still not a high level.

The interesting thing to me about the talent Tennessee produces is that if you can keep most of the big names in state so about 5-7 good players per year you can have a pretty solid roster before you even consider outside the state recruiting. Look at these names:

Hurd
Malone
Phillips
TKj
Gaulden
Martin
Barnett
Foreman
Jennings
JRM(JMR according to Verne)
Medley
Josh Smith
Richmond
Sanders
Kendrick
Jack Jones
Ryan Johnson(true freshman)
Robertson
Mosley
Trevor Daniel
Vincent Perry(not eligible)
Bituli(true freshman)

The state of TN is hardly known a a recruiting hot bed...nothing compared to Fl,Ga,Tx, and La. We've had a recent run of good athletes compared to years past, but we have and will continue to make or hay out of state when it comes to recruiting. There's a reason TN has one of the highest recruiting budget in all of college football.

And that's not even including the guys we let get away because of our recent string of bad years. Imagine if you put Von Bell and Jalen Ramsey in that lineup. The state of Tennessee has made a huge leap in high school talent. Just look at the 2017 class and how many studs are going to come from this state.

This is why winning now is more important than ever. As the state continues to improve in talent, if we aren't producing wins then we won't keep those guys at home. And a roster filled with the top talent in TN is more than good enough to compete for titles once you surround it with a few pieces out of state.

Starts a VN thread, types 2 lengthy questions, and then waits for responses to both of said questions.

But doesn't have time to look up roster...

Hmmm....

It seems to me like UT has always had success with in-state OL, DL, LB, and DB but skill position players like QB, WR, RB not as much. I personally think it's because the skill position players like the spotlight, so they head for places like USC, FSU, OSU, etc. Clemson now has a spotlight on it, so it's no surprise that our in-state skill players want to jump on the bandwagon.

We didn't rely on in-state WR, RB, and QB talent in the elite years of our program during the 90's and early 2000's, so I have no reason to believe missing on prospects like Higgins, Richardson, and Rogers will affect us at all. Sure it would be great to have those guys on board, but we'll still get our high level skill guys on board from out of state.

Be easy! This is why people start running away from these forums. They get attacked for making a simple post asking questions. No need to do this! Not everybody has time on their hands to lookup everything either. :eek:hmy:
