I would think the rest of the SEC would band together and give them an ultimatum. It will be a non-issue. 14 vs 2. The numbers aren’t in their favor. If they strong armed A&M into allowing Texas into the conference then Florida and South Carolina will be a cakewalk.I wonder which current SEC school, Florida or South Carolina, will fight harder to keep a second in state college from joining the SEC.
I doubt anyone in the conference gives a damn about South Carolina’s opinion.I would think the rest of the SEC would band together and give them an ultimatum. It will be a non-issue. 14 vs 2. Texas A&M was NOT happy about that. I have seen more than one podcast mentioning the Big Ten and Texas A&M have had talks. I am sure the Big Ten woukd live to have a school in a growing state of 30 million, plus a limitless supply of football and baseball players, as well as a solid basketball pool. I don’t know if it will be Texas A&M, but at some point, unless the Super League happens, the Big Ten will go into Texas. Maybe Texas Tech or Houston. Not sure about a Baylor or TCU.I would think the rest of the SEC would band together and give them an ultimatum. It will be a non-issue. 14 vs 2. The numbers aren’t in their favor. A&M would instantly be a contender in the Big Ten so I would say that’s a smart move on their part. They would only have to recruit against a select few teams as opposed to at least 10 programs in the SEC that are fully committed. Much easier to manage a Big Ten schedule than a SEC schedule.Texas A&M was NOT happy about that. I have seen more than one podcast mentioning the Big Ten and Texas A&M have had talks. Notre Dame wants out of the ACC also. They will be Big Ten bound as soon as they can make it happen. The ACC will have to merge with the Big 12 teams. Not sure why you think that conference is in a great position to survive realignment but it isn’t happening lolDisagree. ND will be a full time member by then. Everyone's happy
I think some of the current ACC schools end up in the Big 12, not all. Boston College, Wake Forest, Stanford, Cal and maybe even Syracuse are in trouble. Probably some sort of merger with The American ( the land of misfit toys) .SMU may say they will take no TV money for the next 100 years and squeak in.Notre Dame wants out of the ACC also. It’s actually ironic the school that chose to take a pay cut compared to the rest of the ACC teams is turning out to be one of their shining stars. They earned about half of their conference revenue allotment from the CFP in 2024. They honestly aren’t a bad program to have in your conference. They wouldn’t be any worse than someone like South Carolina in the SEC.I think some of the current ACC schools end up in the Big 12, not all. I voted 'Super Conference' because that was the best fit option.Personally, I feel that conferences are well on their way to being extinct. And you younger guys are going to be telling your grand kids the history whenever they ask, "Grandpa? What's a conference?" Buy them a book. Or a tablet. Or bone up and teach them well. My personal hope? They may ask, "What is a Vanderbilt?"
Well, that may happen for a few more years. They are not quite ready to do away with the conferences YET. But let's face it. The Pac 12 imploded fast. The Big 12 has had it's share of defections. The SEC and Big Ten keep trying to grow, and are really overstocked. And the ACC has been walking a tightrope to hold itself together. The whole thing is just one major headline from someone with influence pulling the rug out from under it all.I voted 'Super Conference' because that was the best fit option.
I agree with you here - we aren't far off of the B-Ball side being one giant league with multiple divisions.
On the Football side of all these shenanigans, I see an 8 conference realignment coming that will place all the teams in groups of ~20 teams each.
A&M would probably become number 2 or 3 behind Oregon and Ohio State in recruiting in the Big 10 with their donors whereas in the SEC they will always be second fiddle to Texas and that’s before even thinking about the rest of the conference. They can sell those kids an easier path to winning and wouldn’t have to go through a gauntlet of a schedule every year. Their recruiting would skyrocket if they choose to jump to the Big Ten. It’s pretty easy to figure out.How you figure that?
You think SEC teams will stop recruiting the same players as TX A&M because they are in the Big 10?
They will have to recruit against the same teams they do now.
