In the 90's we had five seasons with 2 losses or less, 1 national title, and 3 SEC championships. In the 2000's era we have only had 1 2 loss or less season and no other accolades.

Including this season Alabama will only have one season that they lost 3 games in 10 years straight. The dominance we remember is nothing like that, and nobody has ever dominated like that.

The only reason I bring any of this up is because we are not looking at this team from the perspective of how good they are as a Tennessee team. We are comparing them to elite powerhouse teams created by elite powerhouse coaches. We had that coach a long time ago and his name wasn't Fulmer, but we haven't had one since and we will be lucky if we ever do. Outside of Spurrier, Meyer, Saban, Petersen, and Harbaugh who is coaching at an elite level and never falters? Sure, I would love to have one of those coaches and I know you would as well, but given the percentages- how likely is that? How many teams have hired "sure fire winners" and they fell on their face?

We have to be excited with the depth that is being created- we have to be excited with the talent. If we run the schedule and go to the SEC championship game with two losses, I will be in a good mood. I don't know about you guys, but I want to give this team and coach a chance to continue building and stop comparing them to coaches and teams that are exceptions to the rule. I look forward to the rest of the year and I'm very excited about the young players and what we will be doing in the future.

Right now we are the guy that is looking at his neighbors Mercedes while forgetting he has a trust fund and we don't. It takes time to build for us, and if we give him time we will have a deep and strong Tennessee team.

Just realized I'm asking the Vol fan base to not blame coaches and team members for us not being better than we are yet.. wasted my time. For those of you out there that get it- kudos to you.

Well, your attempt at levity is appreciated.

However, we are not the best coached team.

Arkansas and Ole Miss put points on Bama. Why not us?

I get it Tyler and I hope Butch is the man. Butch has shown he can pull the trigger when a change needs to be made, I think he needs to do it with Debord.

How is depth being created? None of the guys forced into playing are showing anything remotely close to being really good.

Their O line didn't need walkers to get from the huddle to the line of scrimmage.

Alabama doesn't play those teams like they play us. That's why they will slip up occasionally against teams like them. They came out and wanted to crush us. They did the same exact thing against USC because people thought they would lose.

Example; look at what he Patriots have done normally, and compare it to what Tom Brady will do this season with extra motivation.

1st and 2nd down behind the sticks with runs up the middle. 3 sacks first qtr.

Evidently we conceded the game before we started.

Injuries a factor and 3 SEC games preceding this game against a Power House.

We threw in the towel about midway threw the third qtr played halfway scared after the first Defensive touchdown.

There's nothing wrong with pursuing greatness. This mentality is what makes Tennessee one of the top programs of all time and why we have so many passionate fans. You shouldn't discourage this mentality.

Define what Bama slipping up means? Only beating teams by 28pts? Our biggest margin of victory this year is 10pts.

Why didn't we come out and want to crush them just as bad?

Butch hasn't done anything amazing yet, but he is doing exactly what he said he would do and that is bring our program back to relevance "brick by brick" or in other words, a slow and steady process.

We should win out from here finishing 10-2, with or without the SEC CG, if we win our bowl game, thats 11 wins, and Butch will have provided a two win improvement each season, that is impressive and shows consistency.

I would say most fans have bought in as the athletics department has gained an extra $12mil in funds, I doubt that is from anywhere other than football.

Some people are complaining about the coaching asking why the replacements are not performing well. Backups are not supposed to play like starters that is why they are back ups. It is also not just one position that is hurting, its multiple positions on both sides of the ball, I really believe Danny O'Brien would have made a difference yesterday but it is his own fault he couldn't play not the coaches. Also our back ups are either freshman or three stars or less, a team like Ohio State or Bama has 4 and 5 star backups, I mean seriously Ohio State had three NFL caliber QBs, thats crazy.

We should be proud of what this team is doing so far and the tremendous strides they have shown over the last few years. We can now actually tune into the Florida game or Bama game and expect to win/compete. Whens the last time that was true? Not to mention that we also have quality leadership in someone like Josh Dobbs who represents our school in the best way possible. Sure he isn't the best throwing QB but he has guts, he has smarts, and he is a class act, I think that is huge for our program especially with the perception that many people were giving us when we weren't winning any games.

So guys stick with it, let Butch continue to make strides that continue to add up over time. If there is a quality offensive coordinator out there looking to come to Tennessee I wouldn't be surprised if we made that move in the off-season. We have a lot to look forward to remaining this year, and I say the future continues to look bright for this program.

Go Vols!

The problem is there is only 2008 B1G level talent and after that there is no depth. Seriously people you can't blame injuries for us getting curb stomped and then try to pump us up by saying we have talent and depth.

There is no depth, its just like Dooley, loaded with 3* diamonds in the rough and this coming in class just gets deeper and deeper in crappy 3*'s while the real talent has ZERO interest in this school.

I agree with all of this except the last statement. You can't buy a trust fund (but you can marry one🤑) but you can buy a coach. We could have had several of those superstar coaches in the past, but missed opportunities. We should always be looking for that guy and be willing to pull the trigger when the opportunity arises.

Yeah, I didn't notice this team is only as good as Dooley teams. You are right and everyone else is wrong.

Just who are those superstar coaches we could have had? With the dumpster fire that was left by Kiffin and Dooley, Jones was the only one that would accept the Coaching Job. :dunno:
