In Bball are we still weak at.......

I think Pearl plays a style that suits the talent at hand and plays well to potential recruits. Keep it coming.

I think we can win and win big, but we're going to go through our typical droughts because we don't have that go-to presence out there. Teams win without it and ours can be the same, but winning at the highest level gets much tougher given our streakiness.

Like I've said before, I'll be surprised if Wayne Chism doesn't average at least 12 and 7 as a sophomore. And with Tyler Smith replacing Bradshaw at the four=substantial upgrade. The man averaged just under 15 and 5 as a freshmen forward in the Big Ten. He wasn't a freshman All-American (or third team All-Big Ten) for nothing.

The better question is how many proven dominant big man return to college basketball this year? Outside of Hibbert, Hansbrough, D.J. White, and maybe Joey Dorsey (terrible offensively), nobody else has really been a go-to post presence on a consistent basis.

if you bothered to read, earlier I mentioned the dearth of big men in NCAA hoops giving us a chance to take it deep.

Our biggest enemy today is our big dry spells, which I believe would happen less if we had a reliable paint presence. If either of those guys blossoms into that presence, we will have answered on of the questions about our team. The other big problems, IMO, are FT shooting (which is addressable and I would expect change there) and half court D (which is addressable to some degree, but I'm not sure about the degree to which it can be addressed with our limited size and athleticism)

1. Problem solved with the addition of Tyler Smith.

2. Mostly accurate.

1. I'm not sold on that and would rather see Chism become the solution.

2. Backhanded comments are really annoying. Which was the innacurate part. Halfcourt D is clearly a problem and our size and athleticism could keep us from fully addressing the problem.

1. Oh, the irony. You should've have thought about one first.

2.Therein lies the inaccurate portion. Tennessee will feature one of the more athletic teams in the country next season.

irony? please try and avoid using words over which you have no grasp. Mine wasn't the backhanded compliment as yours was. My comment was straightforward in pointing out that, had you bothered to read, you would have noticed that I had already mentioned the lack of strong post games in college hoops. Hence, you could have avoided your blather about the previously acknowledged lack.

Your backhanded compliment said basically that you agreed with my comment, except something was wrong. You never identified the wrong portion.

As to your analysis (yes, I use it loosely), we will not be one of the most athletic teams in the country next year (if only because Lofton can't hold up his end of that deal) and our size is a hindrance on the defensive end. One defensive liability is all it takes to horrendous defensively. Teams with a beast in the center can overcome perimeter holes. We don't have that guy but do have holes on the perimeter. Result: mediocre half court D

I only addressed your post in the second page. Therefore, of course I didn't read your previous scribbling. You could have worded much differently. It sounded very condescening.

Lofton (second on the team in steals) will hold up his deal unless he's guarding the likes of CDR, Mario Chalmers, and the Wayne Ellingtons of the world. Of course that could change if he plays some point like CBP has indicated.

The only hole in our starting lineup would be Chris in certain matchups. Guys like Jordan Howell won't be seeing a lot of playing time this year.

How many teams will we play that have a beast in the middle that will overcome our guard play?

Every team has holes; it's how well the coach hides those holes and exploites matchups that matter. CBP is very good at that.

Again, Chism's low post defense is being underestimated. Coming out of high school that was one of his biggest strengths. He had a tough time adjusting because he had to get used to what the refs were going to call in the SEC. I think he should make that adjustment and be a great low post defender and rebounder this season. He is exactly what this offense needs at the C position. Tyler Smith's effect on the boards will also be bigger than you think.
