In an exercise of being objective, let’s at least talk about some of the good Pruitt has done

The thing that has driven the fan base the most nuts, is Pruitt's continued insistence in JG being the best chance to win scenario....

The fans want to see Bailey....Not JG again.

Agree the fans want Bailey but Bailey has been the biggest casualty of COVID. I had high hopes that as an early enrollee he would get into the physical conditioning program in January, go through Spring Practice and play in the Orange and White game, participate in summer workouts with the receivers, and then enter Fall Practice with a legitimate shot to be the #1 QB. But that’s not how it worked out; in fact, I believe he missed the first two weeks of Fall Practice due to contact tracing. There are a couple of other true freshmen that have also been impacted but since our greatest on field deficiency is (IMO) QB play, his case is the most damaging to our success. I hope to see him play more (I’d start him today) because he needs the work And we need to see if he’s gonna be the guy. At 2-4 we need to treat the rest of the season as scrimmages to evaluate and develop Young players.

While I'm disappointed this season (like everyone else), I do think we should evaluate Pruitt on a non-Covid season before jumping to too many conclusions. We have a lot of Freshman talent on the roster and none of them had a proper offseason to get prepared. Not that this excuses the terrible QB play, but I feel like it's difficult to really judge much on this season given the completely unique nature of it.
I get the thinking but COVID has nothing to do with not kicking an easy FG that would take a 2 score game to 1 with a few minutes left and it has nothing to do with the horrible play out of halftime. That’s all coaching, or lack thereof, and those are the things that make me think he isn’t the guy. It’s more than just losing games.

Edit: And don’t forget the total lack of discipline on the team. Again, coaching.

We’re frustrated, and justifiably so, but I do sit firmly in the “Pruitt gets 5 years” camp, mostly because I’m sick of playing musical coaches. We have a decade of evidence that it doesn’t work. To at least see all sides of the picture (and give us a much needed change of pace), let’s talk a bit about some of the good so far in Pruitt’s tenure.

To go ahead and address some pre-rebuttals:

-Yes, I’m aware Butch and Dooley did some good things too.

-No, none of these are job-saving, that’s not what I’m arguing.

-Yes, we seem to have regressed this year and now the bad probably outweighs the good, or it’s close.

The good things:

1. Pruitt got Jennings reinstated. Never forget, the Butch/Hoke admin kicked Jauan freaking Jennings off the team. Pruitt rectified that mistake.

2. Pruitt ended the ridiculously unjustifiable Muschamp curse, and he did it in style by throttling him in 2019.

3. Pruitt ended the SEC West drought. Before Pruitt’s arrival, we hadn’t beaten an SEC West team since Dooley beat Ole Miss in 2010. True story.

4. 8 game win streak, our second longest win steak since 1998.

5. 8-5 record in year 2, our second best record since 2007.

6. Took the actual worst team in Tennessee history and in year 1, when most teams go backwards, improved the W/L and conference record.

7. Brought Cade Mays home (although so far he hasn’t lived up to expectations).

Again, not arguing for Pruitt, but let’s at least not be one-dimensional in our overall opinion of the job he’s done. There have been some really good things here. Flame away, I’m sure it’s coming.

After reading the OP again, if Pruitt doesn’t get Number 1 done, 2-6 don’t happen.
I’d venture to say if Number 1 doesn’t happen, Years 1 and 2 would’ve looked a whole lot like Year 3...

Who is his next number 2?

Pruitt’s public speaking skills combined with his eloquent grammar are unparalleled.

He is about to beat Butch's record for least amount of wins in a season.

Am I doing this right?

He already has more SEC wins this year than Butch did in 2017.

Crap season or not, it's not anywhere near as bad as 2017 or 2011. Maybe 2014, 2010, or 2005 bad if things don't improve.

Let’s see what happens though. If we get run off the field by Vandy and obviously lose the rest of the games then I’d say this season is just as bad as 2017.

Honestly I’m more disappointed by our players this year... out of shape and unprepared as a generalization. Our guys haven’t played with fight, again in general.
Now that may be on the coach but I feel like the fault is really shared.

Huh?? Pruitt defended the ones who didn’t.

Whatchu talkin bout Willis?
I heard him say that the story wasn’t done yet. I took that to mean that the pressure was still being applied. I would have like to have heard „We fully support any assistant who is not able to accept a pay cut at this time and will fully meet our contractual obligations to those staff members. This issue is now closed.“. THAT is how you support your staff, not basically saying, we are still trying to get them to bend.

are the not motivated because they think the coaches and schemes are not good enough to win games? Your so right. This team comes out flat. Half time I think they are already on the bus with the way they play after afterwards.

And where has that got us? Bigger,Stronger than T Smith??
Trey was the ONLY big guy. Now everyone around him is his size. They may not all be stronger than Trey but they are Stronger than the person they replaced.
