I posted our efficiency ratings a few weeks ago before the Mizzou game. Interesting movement since then. Here's the updated efficiency ratings for 2019 now that the regular season is over.

Offensive Efficiency
2017: 99th
2018: 84th
2019: 54th

Defensive Efficiency
2017: 71st
2018: 49th
2019: 36th

Special Teams Efficiency
2017: 70th
2018: 49th
2019: 48th

Overall
2017: 90th
2018: 67th
2019: 36th

Some people mocked the offensive efficiency rating two weeks ago. We were 83rd, but we've now moved up to 54th. I don't think this was too surprising given that the critics 2 weeks ago were ignoring the fact that we still hadn't played 2 of our easier opponents. Remember, we also played terrible on offense last season against Vandy and Mizzou.

On the flipside, our special teams efficiency plunged from 10th to 48th after that disastrous performance against Mizzou.

Overall, our team efficiency is at 36th, which is an impressive improvement in Year 2 for Pruitt.

I think we'll continue to get better on defense next season, even after losing Bituli (a huge loss). Offense will be trickier since we'll likely lose our 3 best players in Jennings, Callaway, and Trey Smith. However, hopefully we might get better QB and RB play next season to help offset that.

The O-line should be better next year also. You lose Trey, but our other guys have another year in the strength program and we will add depth. Morris and Wright are true freshman that are starting at both tackle spots and playing great for freshmen. I think receiver is the biggest question mark. Leadership will be a be question mark losing Bituli, Smith, and Jennings also.

In fairness, we do have an O-line mostly stocked with underclassmen. Darnell Wright and Wanya Morris have show signs of greatness, but they have also looked like Freshmen at times. They'll get better over the next few years.
The offense should improve a lot if the qb situation can be handled and some wideout playmakers show up.

The realist in me thinks our D will be around 18th next year and O will be mid 30s

Offense still the worst unit..shocker.
Go look at Chaney's offense rankings in his first year at a school. Most of them are 100+. The good news is that the rankings are usually much improved in his second year. The bad news is that he has never had a offense ranked above 35th, i believe, and that was with a roster full of 5 stars at uga.

I could see us being a top 15 or 20 defense next year.

On offensive efficiency, Chaney was ranked #5 in 2017 and #3 in 2018 at Georgia. Georgia has fallen to #19 without him this year.

Offensive efficiency is a much better measure than things like yardage. Yardage stats tend to favor up-tempo teams (so Butch Jones' stats always looked better than we were in reality). Yardage also ignores turnovers, which are pretty huge in predicting success in the W-L column.

Also worth noting Bama has fallen from #2 with Pruitt down to #9 now on defensive efficiency. Still pretty good, but not quite at the same elite level.

heck, the O line has been great after the 1-4 start....of course the whole team has...we've been dealing with several playing injured...Wanya, Darnell, Trey, and others have tried to fight through them all season...gotta throw them dogs a bone...:D

GO BIG ORANGE!
