After 2 games, the Vols have 3 takeaways and no turnovers. Only one other team in the nation can boast having no turnovers (KState). Overall, UT has been flagged 9 times for 70 yards but only had 3 penalties for 20 yards this past week. Per David Ubben of The Athletic, the UT secondary should have had 2 picks Saturday and Simmons fell on a fumble last week but failed to recover.

3rd down conversions are still too low (7-24 / 29.17 %) with 4th down conversions a respectable 80% (4/5).

Proud of the lads for playing good, disciplined football so far. That shows in both the turnover advantage and the penalty tally.

I think David Ubben is engaging in wishful thinking. Those two potential picks in the Mizzou game would have been near-miracle catches by our lads. At least, if he and I are thinking about the same two plays. There's no "should have" to either of them. Would've been nice, but not the realistic kinds of opportunities you flog your players with "should haves" over.

Leave aside Ubben's wishes. Our fellas are getting after it these first two weeks. And they're doing it with smart, disciplined play. That's exactly what we'll need to beat UGa in a defensive, "whoever makes the most mistakes loses" kind of game plan.

Go Vols!

No one gets credit for “should’ve had 2 pics” and “fell on a fumble but failed to recover”.

I should be living on a private island somewhere right now. Apple was right there for investing in 1980 and I just missed it.
