i think its very impressive that we signed all of the offensive guys today without an OC.

I would have to think that one is already in place, and conveyed that to the offensive recruits, but we arent allowed to announce it until after NSD.

What it tells you is that the recruits trust our HC to get an OC that will lead them to glory - perhaps an odd idea but maybe the fans could do that too :p

With the talent TN now has +$500-750K Butch should be able to pull in a good (maybe great) OC.

Agreed. I believe that we have an OC. We'll find out who it is when the dust settles from NSD.

Agreed. It is impressive and it adds weight to the rumor that Bajakian wasnt a good/invested recruiter

Smart players will commit not because of a single coordinator or position coach, but because of the program and the vision of the head coach. CBJ has folks believing. Very exciting time to be a Vol! :loco:

That's great for the school that he would hypothetically be leaving, but pretty crappy for the kids that are going to find out immediately after signing that they were duped and have no idea who their OC is going to be.

I would think it's more likely that Butch wanted to remain focused on tying together the class at this late stage, and would finalize OC negotiations after NSD.

You don't build a class like this without trust. I doubt highly anyone is being duped.

I found it interesting during the War Room stream when Coach Thig said that Coach Azzani might even try to use Justin Martin on offense...Freudian slip??? Or Gruden just happens to be wearing an orange tie?

Good to see VN getting back to a semblance of reality over this OC position. Man, 2-3 days after the Jake announcement this place was like a psycho ward. Looks like all the hand wringing has been exchanged for reasonable discussion. Hehe, shouldn't last long! GBO

Some of my favorite thought processses ... :-D
* This Recruiting Class is going to fall apart if Butch don't get in a hire before NSD
* The Announcement is coming Wednesday
* He's more loyal to his old friend DeBord than his own career @ UT
* Hart aint gonna open his #$%& checkbook again I see
* Butch has never head coached w/o CMJ
* Peyton is deciding his career now, and I heard he has a house in Ooltewah
* All those interviews are just window dressing. The hire is done!
* Throw the bank at anybody at TCU
* ... :) Love this place

I didn't mean on our end. I meant the hypothetical school we would be hiring away from. Letting him stay just to fool kids into sticking around to save that school's class. Great for the school, not so much for the recruits.

Three years ago any OC would have said:

"Why would I go to TN?"

Now:

"Why would I NOT go to TN?":rock:

I think the recruits having blind faith in Butch is great, but isn't it more feasible that if an OC has been decided but not announced that any offensive recruits (or their parents) who were concerned were told in strict confidence who the hire would be?

Makes me wonder if the offensive recruits had an idea of who our OC was gonna be..

I don't believe they know anymore than we do. If Butch already has his guy, and is hell bent on keeping it a secret, it wouldn't be wise to tell 15 or so 17-18 year old kids. If any of them knew, it would of been leaked by now.

UT is not going to rely on a high school kid to keep a major secret like that. Even if they did know, what's the point of not telling? The OC not wanting to screw over his old school before NSD is the only reason I could think of, but even then if it's a done deal then he's told his old school he's leaving and they will be prepared to tell recruits what the deal is. If Butch has hired someone then we would all know, he's not one for theatrics.

More than likely what is keeping recruits here is that 1) it's the SEC which is a major draw 2) this coaching staff is full of really good recruiters and 3) recruits are seeing UT return one of the top QBs in the SEC, one of the top RBs in the SEC, and several top defensive players and think UT is a strong program right now. UT is a team on the rise right now and we have a ton of players who truly seem to LOVE being here. I think Butch comes across very genuine to players and parents because of his obvious passion and intensity, plus he just really seems like a guy who cares about his players. I think people believe him when he says they will make the best hire they possibly can at OC. I don't think it's anything more complicated than that.

Ah, gotcha. I hope that's not the case for everyone involved.
