“Total disarray” isn’t how most anyone would describe the AD right now imo.
100%

Total disarray is our women’s program…otherwise we are pretty stable…lots of people have gripes with Danny but running an athletic department that is in disarray is not on the list of complaints!

When a business person looks at these numbers and who is also a VOL fan, He/she should begin to wonder what the investment they are making into tickets, travel, team paraphernalia, scalper tickets, food and drink concessions, time lost, opportunity costs for doing other things, etc, etc,. The fan should look at the numbers and say , HEY GREAT....the athletic dept is doing great with anywhere from a 6.6% growth in net profit to over 10% profit in recent years. However, what has the fan received in the last few years? Yes, all winning teams. We should expect and get all winning teams with a high winning percentage. But has the fan really received a better product during that same time? With the NIL craziness, transfer portal idiocy, ticket prices having gone to the moon, etc, what has the fan got out of this mess. I say the FAN has got the SHAFT in the time of all this since the athlete has now realized basically becoming a PRO. Is the fan going to keep putting up with getting this treatment while not seeing anywhere near an INCREASE in the win record for their team. I say NOT!! I say the fan, the smart fan anyway, will see that if this way of running college athletics continues, the FAN, will not continue supporting this method and reality of their bottom line of investment of their time and money. Many don't see it now, but College athletics will either change, or more importantly see their fan base leave in droves, if it doesn't change for the better and especially for the fan!!! You don't have to believe me. Just look at NASCAR over the last 10-15 years, and the empty venues of track owners. They learned that FANS are important and changed their way. NASCAR is coming back big time. College football and basketball should heed the warning signs.......NOW!
I don’t disagree with you regarding the negative impact of NIL and running the AD like a business. As long as the fans continue to show up in droves and buy massive amounts of merchandise, nothing will change. I am happy to see the men’s BB team reach th Elite 8 three years in a row. As an older Vol fan, this level of success was not foreseen 40 years ago when I was in school there.

Butts in seats? Hehehehe. That's 70s thinking that the AD worries about butts. He worries about eyeballs on screens. The SEC returned $70+M to schools from the media contract.

Danny has ZERO CONTROL over the ridiculous secondary market cost of seats and still has a waiting list for season tickets at face value + donation. Danny doesn't care if those people sell their seats for crazy profits nor should he care.

Donor squeezing matters a lot. You are correct. NIL costs aren't going to drop. If Danny runs into a problem in Knoxville it will be because UT can't find major donors willing to be there year after year.
Well I was born in the 70s and guess I never grew up. Butts in seats used to matter. My point is when ticket prices get to point of unsustainable….let’s face it, the common man equals your highest attendance to this day…where will you make up for that shortfall? My guess is the donors aren’t answering that call

Hype does not look good in his latest photos. Is the pressure getting to him? He needs to hire his own S&C coach to get him in shape
if you want to obsess over other men’s looks I suggest you hop back on your tv dramas. No place for that in Vol Nation. We are discussing his coaching abilities. Yalls obsession with other men’s bodies is very odd/telling.

Each sport will have ups and downs.

It’s only the minority that is up in arms.

Breakdown -

2024- 🏈 = playoffs
2023-2025 🏀 = elite 8
2024- ⚾️ = national champs

2025 ⚾️- didn’t make World Series
2025- football four losses

Women’s 🏀- program is a train wreck now but it’s not a revenue driver.

White will be fine as long as football is doing well. Women’s hoops won’t impact him one way or another.

Though women's hoops is important, you can probably take that off the graph in post #8 and the margin would probably look better.

The problem with that is that all the teams can't win. Teams are going to have ups and downs and you're either a fan or not.

If you're only a fair weather fan, good luck because even hardcore "blue blood" programs like Ohio State or Alabama have gone through years of dry spells.

Sure, college football is expensive but everything in the entertainment industry is expensive: TV/movie channel packages, Disney, beachfront rentals, etc and little changes at most beaches or TV or theme parks..... except the price.

What are you going to do with your Saturday instead?
Alabama yes, but Ohio State has never had “years of dry spells” in football.

I would also add that until this season and off-season, the women's BB team has been hovering at the same mediocrity the past decade.

My Saturdays sure as hell don't depend on UT athletics . I have a wife, two sons, 5 grandchildren. So in other words, I have a life way outside of college athletics and UT unlike most here. Just saying that if the NIL crap and transfer portal crap doesn't change, most of you boys and girls will be finding other things to do on Saturday. I have already relegated to expect a disappointing couple of seasons or more, until the NCAA, the courts, conference commissioners, Trump, and Congress can figure out a way to stop the craziness that is now dragging down the product that is put of the field and taking the fan out of the equation.

Viewership is up for college football. That's the problem with your argument. It's not happening.

Will it happen? People keep saying it will but that's not the current trend.

We'll see what the numbers are for March Madness.

Heupel has NEVER been the long term answer. Pretty evident after a couple seasons. Who you guys wanting to replace him with is the better question. I don't love Heupel, but there's not a ton of others available I like more either...
great name them all. Can't wait to see this list

Yep, the rest are either break even or money losers and didn't use to matter about money but it is not fun and games anymore, its a business.

The issue is paying players for profit losing sports. How much sense does it really make?
