With all the praise about Crompton from the head coach. Imagine this scenario. Let's say if Crompton were to win the starting Quarterback position and did well and we won let's say 9 to 10 games, this year it would be a great "feel-good" story for the kid, the program and Coach Kiffin.

I am not a big Jon Crompton fan,but for a kid that has always wanted to come to UT, finally gets his chance, falls flat on his back, gets up at the 9.5 count and comes back to win the fight in the last round...has a great sound to it AND it has GOT to be a great recruiting tool and a huge selling point about this coaching staff to not only turn the team around, but turn a kid that was completely awful into a good and competent player in less than a year would speak volumes about our coaching staff.

I'll be happy if he just leads the ofense. He doesn't have to have a stellar season, just keep from being a bonehead.

im in the same boat u are in. im not big on him, but hey i dont have anything against him personally and if he could turn it around this year and go out with a bang then great. those types of stories make college sports what they are.

I for one will come on here and eat crow if he does well, but in all due honesty I don't think I'll be eating any crow.I can remember before last season began everyone seem to think Crompton was the answer in replacing Ainge, and as we all found out he laid one helluva egg.I was never sold on the kid and prob. never will be,but I really do hope he does well for us this upcoming season...I'm so tired of mediocrity.

Why is everyone assuming that he will even return to his senior season?

If Crompton starts and we win 10 games, Kiffin should win best coach of the century.

I really don't think 10 games is way out of reach. 2 years ago this team won 10 games, and with 8 home games this season, it's possible.

You would think people would be hoping that he does very well this year. Honestly what other choice do we have

I was just talking to my roommate about this! That would say so much about his character if he somehow leads this team to a successful season (8 or 9 wins seem to be the standard).

The kid has been booed by 100,000 people, had 3 different coordinators, and his house and car messed with.

I'm not saying there is a good or great chance of this happening, but it certainly is setting up quite nicely. I'll certainly be rooting for crompdaddy to preserver and possibly overcome all the hate. :clapping:

I'll have some of what your smoking!......:)

When I think of crompton, i am thinking, OHHhhhh no! When you fumble a snap, botch a hand off, throw the ball at the feet of a wide open reciever......I keep hearing what we have heard for years, "he practices well" but we all know he falls apart in game situations.

If he can keep his head on straight he'll play well. Last season he was a mental mess.

That is a great point. It always seemed like he was over thinking every play instead of just relaxing and playing football. I really believe the key to his success this year will be the coaches ability to simplify the O enough for him to make easy reads and smart plays. We know he has the arm and can run if needed, now he just needs to translate all this practice success into game day success.

A la Ainge '07.

I have no idea what JC will do or if he'll even start. I like the OP thought. It would be a great story and highly enjoyable. I would really love to see some of the smart alecks and people have attacked the guy on a personal level embarrassed. The "Crapton" stuff is just plain stupid and immature. Criticize the kid all you want... but unless he's done something to you personally GROW UP already and stop with the stupid stuff.

With that off my chest... I would be as dire and pessimistic as you all if UT had a QB who came in behind Crompton and succeeded last year. They didn't. Pretty much nothing worked with any level of consistency. The QB's played poorly, the OL played poorly, the RB's didn't have many holes but they also didn't play well,.... Worse yet, the WR's and TE's were terrible. They couldn't get off press coverage and often seemed to run the wrong routes.

You have three guys who were highly thought of as recruits. There's a good chance the analysts might have been wrong about one of them. There's a small but reasonable chance that 2 of them were just completely overrated. There's virtually no chance that all three of them were missed so badly by the "experts".
