But I just cannot agree with you people who are calling for Dooley's head.

I can't agree with you when Tauren Poole, a PLAYER for Dooley, a man who most of you have never met, said that it was the players who came out and didn't want to play. He didn't say bad playcalls. He said, "WE didn't execute."

I can't agree with you when Malik Jackson, a PLAYER for Dooley, though only with him for two years, says about him that he's doing things right, and that he's getting the team built right, and that the players need to grow up.

When Dooley points to youth, he isn't talking about lack of talent, or lack of physical development. Now we see, he's talking about emotional and development as men.

Malik Jackson has been at Tennessee for two years, and came from USC, one of the great programs, and yet, he gets it. You play every game like it's your last. You bust your tail, because it may very well be your last. You enjoy every game, because it's bigger than just you. You enjoy a win more than a huge statline.

He gets what it's like to sit on the bench and wait your turn. Tauren Poole gets what it's like to sit on the bench and wait your turn. They get what it's like to get your butts handed to you while on the bench, and just think, "When I get out there, that ain't gonna happen." They get what it's like to earn your spot, and to work to make just one or two years of starting count.

These other guys? Freshmen and sophomores? They don't get it. Tyler Bray knows what it's like to sit on the bench for about 6 games, and then he's been the starter ever since, barring injury. Marlin Lane stepped in and played from day one. Da'Rick? JHunt? James Stone? Juwuan James? Eric Gordon? So on and so on? These guys don't see these games the way that Poole and Jackson and Austin Johnson see them.

These guys were stars. Straight out of high school, and walking into a system where they flourished in, and could play right away in front of 100,000 people. And all year long, it's been about them, and when they fail, blame it on youth and inexperience.

But tonight, the freshmen and sophomores got hit with the fact that they are now not stars, but black marks on this universities history. And they blew a game that should never be blown. They blew it because they didn't work the way they needed to, they didn't focus the way they needed to. The heart wasn't there. Because this team wasn't there. I promise you, if this team was all or even mostly seniors, we'd be celebrating number 27 right now.

But these boys get it now. While I HATE that the streak was broken, and while I hate that we lost period, and while I hate that Tauren, Malik, Austin, and others had to go out like this, and while I especially hate that we're not going to get those valuable bowl game practices, in a way, I'm glad we lost. I'm glad, because I hope that it sends a message to these players that it doesn't matter how young you are, how much you were highly recruited, and how quickly you got into the lineup, you better work your tail off to play every snap like it was your last.

I HOPE that this is going to make the team grow up even more than the win last week did. I hope it's going to put some thoughts into their head as they work out and train this summer. And I hope it's going to help them to come together even more next year to make for a great team.

I believe in Dooley. I like the fact we have a well spoken, organized, micro-managing coach, who has good values, is a good recruiter, and believes in our school. Do I think maybe some position coaches need changing? Yes. But I do not think in any way shape or form that we need a new Head Coach.

I love my Vols. I will support any coach that dons the orange, and takes on the challenge of dealing with some of you people. I will never stop loving the orange.

Seniors, thank you for the heart you gave.
Freshman and Sophomores....learn from it.

Go Vols, and go Coach Dooley. Here's to next year. Live and learn and move on.

Malik on program moving forward: 'Just to grow up. Dooley's going to do big things. He's been building this team really good, and I have no doubt they're going to come out here ready to play, especially after this season. I just feel like they need to grow up and sit back and see where the seniors were coming from and go out there and play for something bigger than themselves.'

BTW...I'm not saying anything negative against Bray, Lane, Rogers, or Hunter or any other freshman. But if they all had the heart and urgency that the seniors had, this season would be much different.

If they're worth being a part of our program, this loss will have knocked some sense into them. I really think this loss will help these guys come together and play like a team.

Remember at the first of the season how Bray said that he remembered that pick against North Carolina all the time? I guarantee you that helped him to grow up. But that play was on Bray. This game? Was on the entire team. I hope that they all remember this game every day. I don't want it to ever happen again. I want this to be the only time in my lifetime we lose to Kentucky.

This is the most sane and reasonable post tonight. People need to be mature and realize we are not firing the coach and AD Hart is not reading Volnation to learn about replacement candidates. This team was not good this year. We will be better next year. We lost. The streak is over. Get over it and let's look forward to recruiting and spring ball.

Great post and I read every single word.

Chaney is the only one that I would say needs to go. I was glad that Dooley held over Chaney at first to have some continuancy from one coach to the next. But I haven't liked Chaney's play calling at all. I know he's had success with many, I know he produced Drew Brees, but I don't think Chaney is responsible for Drew Bree's success, I think Drew Bree's is responsible for his success.

I would like to see a new OC. I may be ok with a Offensive line coach change. But I wouldn't go any further than that. DO NOT TOUCH the defensive staff (Not even Terry Joseph). And give Peter Sirmon a fat raise!

Wrong, Dooley is a horrible coach. Do you really believe that a player would say that his coach sucks? He has been out coached in every game this year. He is incapable of making in game changes and can not motivate players. He just isnt that good, face it.

And I think it's good that the streak is broken for another reason.

I want these boys earning every single win. And I don't want them to win it to keep a streak alive. I don't want them to win to get to a bowl. I don't want them to win to win the SEC. I want them to win, because I want them to want to be winners. And that's a stupid sounding thing, but they should have won that game tonight. And not because it was Kentucky. Not because we had more talent. Not because it would have been 27. But because it was a game in which the University of Tennessee's pride was on the line against someone else, and because it was a game in which they were representatives of our university. THAT'S why you win a ball game. Bowl games? Championships? Rivalries? Shouldn't matter. You want to win games, because that's what a University of Tennessee football team does. They win. Bowl games and Championships are secondary, and they will come.

But our players number goal? Win every challenge put in front of you, on every down, in every position, in every series, in every game. And the rest will come. Our players lost that tonight.

Time to get it back. Just. Win.

I hope you're right and the underclassmen do learn from this loss, but I am skeptical. I think too many of these kids think the NFL is going to get handed to them and UT is just a stepping stone. Dooley better figure out how to knock that crap outta their sorry asses right *****ing now. Going to go put on my leather helmet now......

It does. I was absolutely pissed earlier, but I've moved on. Looking forward to seeing what we can do next year. Also excited about recruiting coming to a close soon :good!:

You have children?

Reason I ask, is because you know full well if you do, that when they're little, you can tell them to do something, and if they don't, you bust their tail, and they will next time.

But when your child becomes a 6'5'', 300 lb man with a mind for themselves, you can scream at them, cuss at them, maybe tough love them, instruct them all you want. But if they don't care enough or aren't mature enough to know why they need to do it, they aren't.

We are dealing with 6'5, 300 lb children. A whole team of them. And they are talented. And everyone has told them they are. And so, when they met people more talented than they were this year, they didn't know what to do. And so at halftime, they shut down. And Daddy Dooley can tell them what they need to do, and probably did. And probably even made the right adjustments. But if the children did not want to grow a pair, and get out and do what needed to be done, then they wouldn't. And they didn't.

I think when he said that the team "Grew up" a little bit last week, I think he meant that for the first time, when they were challenged by someone who had talent, they fought back a little bit. Like MEN are supposed to.

Get off him, and if or when he is fired, you put in your resume, so we can all gripe about your mistakes that you can't help.

Whose responsibility is it to ensure that the young players don't get the big head? The head coach. Whose responsibility is it that the team is ready to play? The head coach. Whose responsibility is it to make sure that Bray, Rogers, Stone, etc develop in their second year? While I'm proud that our off-the-field problems have been minimal (knock on wood), I'm most disappointed in the on-the-field maturity and attitude. And whose responsibility is that?
