After leaving the local BWW last night, I came home, and I couldn't bring myself to even check VolNation. I went straight to bed in my UT shirt and my jeans. This morning, I'm still at a loss for words. Someone in another thread had a parody of the Dennis Green meltdown - and it's exactly how I feel.

I'm very heartbroken that we lost, and I want to add that in no way, shape, or form, am I upset with any of the players or CBP. However, some glaring things:

1. I said over and over this week that Ramar Smith would be the key to this game, and I was right. He played like a man all over the court, except for one place: the line. 3-7 is unacceptable, and 8-17 as a team is embarrassing. If he just hit our season average of 65%, we get 3 extra points, a victory, and another night to play. They better fix it over the summer.

2. This game was evidence that Jordan Howell needs to be a 10 minute guy whose main goal is to stroke 3s. He was beaten by OSU's guards for the entire 9 minutes he was on the court. Love the kid, but his role needs to be smaller.

3. Our 2nd half offense was like night and day compared to our first half offense. In the 1st half, we were confident, relentless, and methodical. In the 2nd half, our strategy was to have our 2 guards toss the rock back and forth until 12 seconds were left on the shot clock, then give it to Lofton, Jujuan, or anyone we could find to shoot a 3. If we're going to wait to 10-12 seconds, give it to Ramar and let him drive to the hole.

4. The officiating was bad - 24 fouls against Tennessee, 17 against Ohio State. No foul shots from Chris Lofton or Jujuan Smith. Compare that to OSU's 2 best players, who shot 20. 20-0 for the best 4 players on the floor.

5. Whether or not CBP put blame on the refs or the players, he needs to take some fault. He took the foot off the gas pedal.

6. After the game, a few Ohio State fans came up to me and said "The best team didn't win, the luckiest team did." Classy fans last night.

7. I am extremely happy with this team. It was easy on Thursday morning to say "Even if we lose, I'll be happy because a lot wasn't expected." Now, on Friday morning, as I try to remind myself of that, it's easy to say "We had a 20 point lead in the 1st half, and we choked." There will be another day, but we have to wait 7 months for it.

I agree with everything you said except this. I'm sure there are things to blame Pearl for, but I don't think Bruce Pearl took our foot off the gas. I think Ohio State took our foot off the gas.

i totally agree with you...i couldn't sleep all last night...i loved this team all season and i was definately heart broken...

yeah i also thought thougthout the week that I could take a loss to ohio st (being the young team that we were) and i would still be happy...but to think that we blew a 20 point lead to a team that did not play anywhere near their best really really disappoints me...

i dont think you can blame this loss on bruce pearl...that guy is a hard working machine...he put us in this position...i think we have to blame the players' attitude...a coach can only do so much, i mean i dont think CBP said "we got this in the bag" at half time....

To think this tennessee team easily wouldve gone to the elite 8 really makes me happy, but to think we lost that big of a lead really puts me down...

the future is extremely bright!

GO VOLS!

Word. OSU deserves some cred for slowing the game down, drawing contact, getting to the line, and knocking down FT's. This KILLED us.

When the pace was up, things were money. As soon as Conley drew his second trip to the line down 9, I started to worry.

As for the other stuff, VIA, I feel your pain. A little more icing on this cake of a season would have been grand.

I plan on consoling myself by rooting against Memphis tomorrow night.

Eff you, coach Cal.

I too am tremendously disappointed in our second half meltdown but remember 2 years ago when we were done after Thursday night of the SEC tourny? We expected nothing and got nothing. What an amazing turn around for this team. Now we are upset we didn't make it to the elite eight. I'm very proud of the team and Coach Pearl and look forward to the Future of Vols Basketball.

I agree I feel like someone ran over my dog than before they left kicked me in the goods!!! It will take a while for this to go away! I thought about taking time off from the nation and all things UT related cause I just can't explain how I feel. This might be the worst feeling I have had as a Vols fan.

The future is bright and next year it is final four or bust.

Also, don't know their stats. But I feel Chism and Crews were absent for the most part. Oden sat for a lot of minutes. Not sure we ever really took advantage of that.

Oden's replacement was no slouch! As we were watching the game, early on I told my brother that Conley was the one we needed on the bench. Seems we flourished when he sat!

Yep, exactly how I feel. I knew there would be disappointment for a loss, but man, this is rough.

I think it does hurt more that we were up by 20 than if it was close the entire game. Yup it's official I'm putting myself on suicide watch :mf_surrender:

His replacement may have been no slouch, but he wasn't something Chism and Crews should not have been able to do some damage to.
