Thanks JP, Nice graph. It shows pretty much what I thought and what most have said, but it's nice, for me, to see it like this.
This thread makes me think of the subject that pops up every year at some point about being fans of Tennessee, not the SEC and how some don't care what everyone else is doing in the SEC. I'm one of those, but seeing how bad the East has been the last few years, I can't help but feel hypocritical. Make sense?
behr, i've always been a fan of the sec. Tennessee first, of course, but still i love the traditions and rivalries of the conference.
It's kind of like the "family before tribe, tribe before nation, nation before empire" tiers of loyalty. Entirely possible to be a fan of tennessee first, last, and forever ... And still support other sec schools when they play outsiders.
And it's also self-serving. As has been pointed out here many times over the years, the better the sec does as a conference, the more meaningful it is to outsiders when tennessee does well.
I guess it comes down to how much hate you hold and need an outlet for. If you got that much, guess you just gotta show nothing but disdain for our conference brothers.
P.s. Similar conversation that also involves sportsmanship and self-serving interests is the one about talking up (vice talking down) opponents. Whether we win or lose, it's always better to see the foe as worthy unless they're florida or bama. But a lot of folks don't have the sportsmanship in their hearts for that, either...or the brains to see how it helps us. *shrug* the world is as the world is.
