I'm in a weird place with my expectations for this team

Unfortunately, I think we're going to come home with a L tomorrow. I think LSU's defense will make us one-dimensional by shutting down our run game early and I think we'll have a hard time slowing down the pass rush once that happens. On the other side of the ball, I just have no confidence in our pass defense - regardless of the opponent. I'm thinking the final score will be something like 30-27, 27-24 in favor of the Tigers.

HOWEVER

If we win tomorrow then my presumptions will have been proved wrong and my expectations for the season will shift dramatically. I'll go from thinking this is an 8-4 team to thinking this is an 11-1 team. Am I the only person who feels this way? If we can move the ball on LSU, we should be able to move the ball on UGA... and UGA's offense hasn't exactly lit up the scoreboard in recent weeks. In other words, if we win tomorrow I'm buying tickets for Atlanta. Tell me where I'm wrong

Our run game will be fine. When teams have to spread their corners and lbs all the way out to cover sideline to sideline, it makes for great run gains plus our OL has been playing far better than expected so far this season. If they want to stack the box and risk one on ones, so be it. Look for Hendon to throw for 400+ if so.

UT going to Baton Rouge and laying and egg crossed my mind, but that was my old BVS I’m pretty sure

Wierd place is fine.

But thinking of every reason why will lose is something else all together, man.

How about you try and think about HOW we could win.

Try that....

Hopefully we don't get LSU's starting officiating crew for this game . Otherwise I think we roll.

You are severely overrating that tigers defense. You seem to be trying to find every reason for us to lose this game. Get that BVS out of your head and just enjoy the game. Once again there is a reason all the talking heads are picking us to win this game. Stop trying to find every reason for this team to be bad or lose
Edit: and having us lose every toss up for the rest of the year is not being realistic. It’s called being sad and having no faith because of past coaching staffs. Kentucky has shown nothing that shows they will beat us in Neyland. And lsu will be close but everyone that is not sad or a sufferer of BVS is picking us to win this game

I’m in a weird place as well. Here’s the conundrum:

1 - I have BVS. It’s hard to reconcile this season’s early results with my recent expectations.

2 - On paper the LSU game is very winnable.

It’s a tug of war before psychology and reality.

My expectations are that this team will be 8-4. My hopes are higher however and there are games that could go either way. I will enjoy every minute if we go 11-1 but will also not think the sky is falling if we don't. For what this team consists of talent wise, it's unrealistic to expect better than 8-4. Like I said though, if we beat that, that will be a more enjoyable ride.

Yes you are. You really aren’t sure if we can move the ball against LSU?

TN will move the ball just fine. UTs offensive scheme is elite and we have quite a few play makers to boot.

Will that be enough to overcome home field advantage and some rajun Cajuns ? Hopefully so but that’s my only question for tomorrow

Self-imposed BVS doesn’t shield you from anything. Understanding that we are not fully back, but certainly on our way, losses will happen. It doesn’t detract from the enjoyment of the journey.

The reality is, for the average fan, there is nothing on the line. Your life will not change with either outcome. Right now we are playing with house money….there are no real expectations due to our recent history. Now is the time to appreciate the difference we are seeing on the field, and the opportunity to ruin someone else’s season. Once we are “back” is the time that you stress and walk the tightrope of emotion.

I can tell some didn’t go through the ups and down of the 70’s and 80’s, and on to appreciate the 90’s.

If our offense plays the way they’ve proven they can and our defense is just serviceable we win.

This game is another potential water line for the program. You win and the media keep fawning, YouTubers make funny complimentary skits, NIL groups gain another selling point, and fans crow. Success breads success.

It’s hard to understate it but beating LSU and Florida in the same years elevates UT to a level of relevance not seen since the early aughts. That should be reason enough for hopeful anticipation.

Relax. It’s not the end of the season if they lose & doesn’t make it if they win. One game. That’s all.

I went into this season with my expectations very guarded, and still are to a point. However this team's never quit play is bringing me around. I expect a win tomorrow. A tough one but a win.

It is BVS flaring up. My first thought when considering the next opponent is "can they throw a slant?". If so, the doubt sets in fast. I am holding out hope that the secondary shows some signs of life and starts to pull their weight. Whatever happens tomorrow, we beat Florida's ass so very proud of this team.

I think we win every SEC-E game minus one. That's a heck of a year two.

I think concerns about LSU's defense are legitimate. However, I also think this will cause Josh to have our Vols play with the recklessness of David Farragut. Hooker will be frequently launching Mark 22s and LASRMs armed with nuke TD warheads.

The thunder will be rolling, the lightning will be flashing, but right through the middle of it we'll go dashing.

I think tomorrow and Kentucky are coin flips.

I think we'll probably lose to Bama and UGA.

The rest we should win.

The problem is our D is suspect and our depth is thin at spots. In reality, all an opponent has to worry about is our Offense. UF showed our D sucks and every team should just go for broke and consider it 4 down territory the entire game. Statistically, that will work out for them more often than not.

I feel like we'll go 9-3 and with a good bowl win, I'll be very happy with the season considering where we were just a short time ago with the Cornbread fiasco.

If we do lose, I just hope our fan base doesn't go crazy with emotional stupidity. Very few people thought we would be 4&0 and in the top 10. If we lose this week we still have a LOT of season to go.
They are emotional and crazy already. This fan base collectively needs therapy.
