I'm beginning to believe guys. I started following U.T. football around 93. I've seen ups and downs. I've been beaten up as a vol fan. I've been told over and over and over that we were going to win games again and seen the breakdown and rebuild of the mental health of this fan base.

I've never seen it look this good.

In years past, the loss of chance Hall for the first half of the season would have been it. That would be the season. Right now, from what I'm hearing, we are planning on putting a VERY young O line on the field this year, and the coaches WANT IT THAT WAY. Butch seems to pull off the impossible over and over and over again. As it stands right now, we may have tuttle, hall, and a full compliment of starters back for the salami game at home fresh and ready to play some ball after some healing time. The passing game also looks to be on fire this year. The other teams in this conference are not looking any better off and some worse off than we are. We have to win. That's all we have to do is win. Sounds easy right?

We, as a fan base are excited and desperate I know. Some of us are unnecessarily unsure, some us are over the top and called us NC already. Lets stop for a second before this season starts. Lets let it play out. Lets give it a chance. You don't wake the bear before you walk in the cave. Lets give this season a chance.

But I'm beginning to believe. :clapping: Go Vols, and thank you Butch Jones and the Athletes that have put in the work.

I haven't seen anywhere saying the passing game is on fire, maybe slightly improved. I heard there were a lot of balls hitting the ground last practice.

Cool

Then do us a favor and stop posting "Dormady time" in the game threads every time an incomplete pass is thrown

Beat Florida and I'll believe. At the end of the day Butch has still only beaten 2 SEC teams with winning records, so this is a huge year for meeting and exceeding expectations.

Tennessee has the talent to play with anyone however, this team will have several close games against good teams and will need a drive late in a game to either keep the ball and run out the clock or drive the length of the field to get a game winning score. To do that, you have to be able to throw the ball effectively under pressure.

Last year, the Vols could not get a 4th Qtr drive against Ark, or Alabama to get the needed score to win. Also, they were not able to convert late 3rd downs against OU, UF, or UGA to keep the ball and run out the clock. All of this because they either didn't trust the offense to be able to convert with passes or they couldn't get it done passing the ball.

OU, UF, and Bama all beat Tennessee by moving the ball through the air in the 4th quarter of close games. Championship teams get this done and this offense has not proven itself to be capable of that. If they can't, it's another year of close but no cigar. That's what will determine whether this season is successful or not.

In other words you are saying this...

Unfortunately you're correct.

It was virtually impossible to lose to both OU & UF last season. Didn't ESPN put up a win probability % vs. OU in the 4th quarter?

I watched the UF game again and the last 7 minutes of that game UT looked like the Keystone Cops. They went out of their way to give it to UF. Thank goodness UT had 2 TO's left or they would have had 2 run-off penalties in the last minute. That crap needs to stop!

We are finally par with the other top teams in the SEC East in talent, depth and experience. Will all come down to luck and coaching.

When we beat Florida I will drink a big ole glass of orange Kool-aid. Until then it is just a bunch of talk.

Where are you hearing that? From what I can tell, the only 1st year starter right now would be RS Freshman Drew Richmond at left tackle. My starting 5 is below.

LT- Drew Richmond (RS FR)
LG- Jashon Robertson (JR)
C- Coleman Thomas (JR)
RG- Dylan Weisman (SR)
RT- Brett Kendrick (RS JR)

A 2 minute passing game would improve the luck immensely.

Agreed.

I haven't seen the passing game look this good preseason in years. It's become obvious they are making the passing game a priority this year, and I'm beginning to believe Dobb's is going to blow away my perceptions of him. He has everything he needs to do so. He has looked very good preseason.

I think you may be misinterpreting that a bit, DD.

Sounds like the coaches are very pleased with the new OLinemen and what they portend for the future.

That does not mean they want to play them this year. Not at all.

We're gonna see a well-seasoned OL in 2016. Barring multiple injuries Richmond, Robertson, Thomas, Wiesman, Kendricks, Hall, and Jones will get 100% of the starts this season, and 75%+ of the playing time.

Add Sanders, Mosley, Keeler, Boulware and Edwards, and we've probably accounted for 100% of the snaps, or very close.

You can not keep the same five guys on the field all game long every game. This isn't high school. An online is only as good as it's two deep. We will be rotating in a lot of youth even if there are no more injuries. Doesn't matter as the coaches seem to like what they have.

I'm counting 12 solid players before you even get to the first true freshman.

I bet all three of those young fellows redshirt, barring multiple injuries to upperclassmen.
