:finger3: I came into work this morning and have heard from numerous people how we almost got beat. I told them not to worry because it was hard for our guys to get up to play AF when we just beat a top ten team and have Florida this wkend. All of them who are Bama, and Auburn fans. I congratulated Auburn fans on beating a Miss. St. team who hasn't scored all year, and congratulated Bama fans on beating Vandy in the era of life without Cutler. I'd love to see LSU beat Auburn bad, and see Bama not be beaten til we play them although highly unlikely seeing that they go to Florida n 3 wks.

Its not as easy to explain by saying "they were not up for the game." Playing against an offense like the flexbone takes patience, brains, and less emotion. Its assignment football that stops that kind of football. It was clear that the defense was not ready for that. They rely more on physical ability. I-AA teams that run the option would have given the Vols defense fits Saturday. And as Fulmer said, he's not going to review the defensive tapes on this game at all, because it won't help. The Vols won't play another offense like this for the remainder of the season.

The offense played an almost near flawless game. They scored on the first 5 possessions. Maybe would have been 5 touchdowns if Meachem had not dropped a sure first and goal pass on the first drive that led to a field goal. The last possession ended with Ainge's first bad pass of the game inside the AF 20-yard line. The Vols were leading 31-17 at the time with only 6 minutes left in the game. I don't think one could make the case that the offense was not ready. I almost burst out laughing when the AF coach said that his team just ran out of time. They scored with 1:30 left on the clock and decided to go for 2-points. How was he going to stop Ainge from throwing another touchdown with that amount of time?

I agree n give AF a lot of credit, but you could tell the D didn't play with the intensity that they did the week before. I'm sorry I meant to say that the D wasn't up for the game, yes the O was unbelieveable.

Here's a trivia question: Who was the last team to try and go for two against us at the end of a game for the win?

I certainly wish you no ill will, but I would not be unhappy if all of those Bammers ribbed you every Monday because the vols almost got beat.

The game may not have been the 20 point breezer that odds-makers predicted, but a win is a win. I'll take 12 more, please.

Don't worry, your day in the sun will come on the 4th Monday of October. We should crush 'bama this year.

I wouldn't let it bother you too much. I get the same thing here in Montgomery. Consider that the sources are a has-been team living off the glory days of a former coach. The other is a never-will-be that suffers from an inferiority complex.

Oh ya def. they can't let go of the past, and every year i hear, "oh this is the year we make a comeback and go to the SECCG. well since they got off probation, and when they were on probation it was "if we weren't on probation we'd b goin to the championship game" then a few games into the season they'd stop the talk, but then start up the whole "Bear" talk. I'd just tell them Bear is dead just like Bama football

Here's a trivia question: Who was the last team to try and go for two against us at the end of a game for the win?

Was it in 1992 when david palmer from Alabama lined up at QB and ran one in, or was that for the tie? I forget. or was it in 93 against South Carolina when they had Steve Tannyhill??? one of the two has to be.

It was for the tie . . . but I think they ended up having to forfeit that game due to sanctions.

The last time it was stopped by Tennessee was Kansas in 73.

Not sure if it has been attempted successfully against us or not.

Also, the last time that we attempted it (and failed) was @ South Carolina in 1992 in a 24-23 loss to S. Carolina. (Thanks Johnny, damn that Steve Tannyhill.)

Hey VM21, ask them what an Alabama fan and a maggott have in common. If they don't know tell them they both can live off a dead bear for 20 years.....

Bama didn't exactly beat Vandy convincingly. I'd say Air Force would bend Vandy over and make them like it.
