Yes. Tennessee got a bad call at the end of that game. Hands down. But, Heupel needs to learn to win by playing the safe game sometimes. We should have kicked the field goal. We had been stopped on numerous short yardage situations. Bad decision. Then, on the last drive use some timeouts. Give yourself some more time and scheme up something to get you into field goal range. This was squarely on Heupel and staff. They're a really good coaching staff, but this shouldn't have been close in the 4th. Oh well. Good season...impressed...but we need a little more "safe" at the end of the games.

A field goal to put us up four with -- was it 8? --minutes would have made all the difference in the world.

I appreciate his guts and trust in the guys on the field. We’ve been asking for just that for years. But he does need to find a balance. And also learn how to appropriately manage end of half / end of game situations. Sometimes the numbers on that clock are important.

I agree to a point. But Heupel also went for it on 4th and goal from the 13 yard line with about three and a half minutes to go (when the book probably says kick). I probably would have kicked it.

If he takes three there we might not have made it to overtime to begin with.

I’m looking for a cardiologist who’s accepting new patients first thing tomorrow morning. 😅

Realistically, yes, it should have been over by the 4th quarter. But they didn't execute the plays, let Purdue hang around.

I wasn't upset about the 4th down call in OT but I was upset about the 2nd down call. Also, hindsight is 50/50 so not kicking the FG was a very risky proposition but if you take it then you have to convert.

The end of regulation play calling and clock management was more egregious.

2nd qtr offense was disappointing. Have to keep your foot on the gas, small chunks, run, RPO, then hit the deep. Lived on 3rd and short

I sometimes wonder if calling his own plays hurts his clock management. Too much going on.

There's a big difference. UT was down by 7 when he went for it on 4th down. I'm sure if they had been up by one he would have kicked the FG.

NCAA Football 2013 and 2014 Rules and Interpretations Rule 9, Section 3, Article 2-b (Page FR-96 or 98/216 on my reader) states:
The ball carrier shall not grasp a teammate; and no other player of his team
shall grasp, pull, or lift him to assist him in forward progress.

He has some flaws in his system. They need a big back for short yardage situations for one.. Line up under center instead of shotgun every now and then.. I also get a little concerned about the repetitive nature of his play calling. Purdue caught on to it at times and jumped a bunch of plays.. Teams have film now and know what's coming. He's going to have to tweak it some next year. There is a pattern to his play calling..
