If you're honest with yourself, this is what we saw.

We saw one team that was bigger, faster, stronger and more athletic and had 2 weeks to prepare.

The other team had mediocre talent with a few exceptions but they were well prepared, well coached and thus played like a team and made few mistakes.

You can hate me, bash me or ignore me. But if you're honest you know this is true.

I haven't bashed you or ignored you. To say I hate you is a pretty strong word, I would say 1 level below hate.

Oh, BTW, you're right.

I think you are underselling Miss St's talent, but everything else is hard to argue. That's a game we have to win.

He is not underselling, you can honestly see that TN had more talent. Other than the terrible secondary for TN. The coaches are the issue, they continue to get out schemed on the defensive side and they go for every fake under the sun and our way out of position.

I just hope I do not read foolish posts this week that we will beat Bama or USC. IMO that is not fandom but irrational thoughts. Focus needs to be on November schedule.

I don't know how it looked on TV as I haven't had the want to watch it yet. But in person the talent gap was obvious. If anyone else was there I'm sure they'll agree.

It was talent and athletic ability that kept in that game with the KO return for a touchdown and the blown up plays that we're turned into positive yardage. Unfortunately you are right. We were out coached.

What I saw at the end of the game with 9 seconds was a td from Miss St that was not called for. They had the game won with the ball on the 9 yard line. They didn't need to score. They didn't need to rub it in. Shame on Coach Mullen for doing that. What comes around goes around. That was just a very low blow on Miss St's part.

They had better corners than us. That's it. 2 spots. But our corners didn't have to cover hunter or Patterson so they didn't need to be as good to win. Just terrible defense

Volbeef was thinking the same thing. And when you put athletes, fundamentals, and discipline together you have Bama. And its just not the Vols its pro and college together. I dont believe i have ever seen so much sloppy football in my life til this year.

What? If they kick a FG they're up six and have to kick the ball to us with time for a kick return or pooch it and we get a throw to the endzone. I thought it was a brilliant move.

It was our responsibilty to stop them......I guess we wanted them to lay down like us?????

Exactly. Coaching matters at all levels. Just look at the Saints.

Mullin can coach

Yep. Great game plan by him. He kept our offense off the field with his play calling. Including the short kickoffs that he recovered. Our defense was dragging their tongues on the field by the end of the first half. He didn't panic when we were closing the gap by going for it on 4th down. He just stuck to the game plan and out coached us.

That's why I said a few exceptions. Tyler Russell is also a pretty good college qb.

I actually would have put my running back there and tell him to scramble around as fast as he can for nine seconds. What if Russell throws a pick there?

No argument here. Plus Dooley had to know this game was make or break for him and still he couldn't get it done.

This reply is another sad example of the general level of football intelligence of our fanbase. Aside from the obvious (and dead-accurate) retort of "if you don't like them scoring, then stop them," going for it on 4th down was absolutely the correct decision there. A FG makes it a 6 point game and they'd have to kick off to a team that had already taken it to the house. If they turn the ball over on downs there, we've got 1 play from our own 9 yard line.

It's the right coaching decision, albeit with a marginal benefit. Good coaching, something we've never seen under the current administration, is simply making these sorts of decisions on a consistent basis.

That was a call that would either be a TD or incomplete. To the back of the endzone up where only his WR could get it or throw it away. If it's a TD game over. If it's incomplete UT has less than 10 seconds to go over 90 yards. Very good play call IMO. Very, very low chance of an int.
