you had the ball, and you were playing a hated SEC rival, and you still had timeouts left, would you let the clock run out? Or would you go down fighting every minute?

The conservative view is to get into half time with as little new damage as possible. The what if situations, right? What if they get a pick 6, or what if we fumble, etc. There's a lot of things to think about.

You play to win the game

Exactly. How does it help to win the game if the opposing team gets a pick-6? There are many views to this situation. How has your offense been playing thus far, and do you trust them to play a more attacking style to end the half and take some gambles on 4th downs? How has your defense been playing in case something happens? Who gets the ball to start the 2nd half? How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood? All this is very important in the decision of coaching aggressive or conservative.

If the team that's down gets the ball first in the second half, I'm fine with staying conservative.

A gator fan defending Volunteer decisions...maybe we should have thrown the ball to you. Unbelievable.

I remember being excited that ole conservative Phil was being agressive at the end of the first half of the game against Notre Dame in 2004 and then we lost the game that we probably wouldof won and lost ainge for the year. Then again i also remember the clausen to james banks hail mary in '03 at florida that sparked a momentum change and win. Not sure where i come down on this.

Yessir, I understand. It's not like we are trying to protect a chance to go to the national championship game. We are trying to come out of the gutter. Trying to gain ANYTHING. We onsided in the 2cd qtr last week for crying out loud! We should be ALL IN. My disappointment is showing its ugly head. I'm tired of being embarrased by Florida. Period.

What drive are you talking about? This was our drive to end the 2nd Half:

  • (1st and 10) TENNESSEE drive start at 00:51.
  • (1st and 10) Bray, T. sideline pass complete to Rivera, M. for 9 yards to the UT29, out-of-bounds (Riggs,C.).
  • (2nd and 1) Bray, T. deep out pass incomplete to Rogers, D..
  • (3rd and 1) Bray, T. rush quarterback sneak for 2 yards to the UT31, 1ST DOWN UT (Floyd,S.;Green,W.).
  • (1st and 10) Bray, T. post pass incomplete to Rivera, M., PENALTY UF pass interference (Jenkins,Je.) 15 yards to the UT46, 1ST DOWN UT, NO PLAY.
  • (1st and 10) Bray, T. sideline pass complete to Rogers, D. for 29 yards to the UF25, out-of-bounds, PENALTY UT illegal touching (Rogers, D.) 0 yards to the UT46, NO PLAY.
  • (2nd and 10) Bray, T. sideline pass incomplete to Rivera, M..
  • (3rd and 10) End of half, clock 00:00.
  • (3rd and 10) Start of 3rd quarter, clock 15:00, UF ball on UF30.
For you learning disabled that is 5 passes and a rush for a 1st down. We were passing deep downfield.

I guess actual stats are now not included with this soon to be completely idiotic fanbases hyperbolic knee-jerking.

We had timeouts left. See that stat?????

We had 1 timeout. And timeouts don't add time to the clock, they stop it. So I don't see your argument, the clock wasn't running the last few plays.

I see your point. Due to an incomplete pass. Okay so I need to find something else to be mad about :)

Now we could prob both agree that it might have been a good idea to use said timeout after Bray's qb sneak to get the first down. Can't let almost 30 seconds run off the clock there. That killed us.

Thats what I was referring to, but I couldn't remember what it was that burned so much time. Thanks for shaking my memory. I know I was furious. It was poor coaching to say the least.

Since this thread is ridiculous, can we discuss how pathetic it was for Mississippi St to quit Thursday night? WTF were they doing?

I don't know. Did they let 30 seconds run off the clock while they were driving at the end of the half? And did they have a time out left? That kind of quitting? Or a different kind of quitting?

I think Miss St. has a forum...

A lot of people will agree with you here, but I highly disagree. We made a first down on that play, so the clock is stopped automatically. What needs to happen is Bray needs to stand up and get the damn call without allowing 20 seconds to run off. Freshman mistake. Save the timeout so that you can keep throwing over the middle while trying to get into field goal range (which we almost did).
