Wouldn't you fight with everything you have to keep the job you love? Or would you step aside for the "good" of the team? Just asking.

He's already a mutli-millionaire. Why hang around forever at a job very few people want you to keep?

If I was Coach Fulmer I would have retired at the end of last year, or after the NC

I thought it said "If you were Phil Fulmers shoes"... and I didn't understand the premise... :eek:lol:

IMO this season will seal his fate. If we don't make a bowl he'll be hard pressed not to step aside; and we'll have to seriously pick up the pace if we want to have any chance to go bowling. If he can't preform his time here will be up come late November.

If I were CPF, I'd hang on until I reached the magical age of 59 1/2 and then negotiate an out.

If I were Fulmer, I'd probably keep coaching, having confidence that I could duplicate the success I had in the 90's...that's just the way it is...nobody wants to believe they suck at what they do for a living.

But...

If I were Hamilton, Fulmer wouldn't have the option of coming back next year. He could either resign or be fired.

At some point of getting his head beat in on a regular basis by the likes of Meyer and Saban, you would think he would realize his time is past.

No one wants to be a loser....especially Fulmer. I don't see why he would resign....I'd fight to right the ship....

Good luck finding a coach that will ever readily admit that his time is past.

I hate to use this as an example but here it go's...... Back in the late 60's Alabama had 3 or 4 mediocre seasons and they all thought that the game had passed Bryant by and it was time for him to go but he stayed around, put in a new offense that he got from Darrel Royal at Texas, and dominated the 70's. No im not callin CPF Bryant, but let the man stay and work it out and figure a way to keep his job. And when its time for him to leave let him leave on his terms........

If I was in CPF's shoes, I'd have someone post the truth here periodically just to keep VN from getting too far off track.:)

Seriously, though...

I'd also be proud of what I'd done for UT football and enjoy the memories of that success.

I'd always remember the 1990's and how special they were--and I'd get tickets to see PM and others play on Sundays.

I'd help the new coach recruit players to rebuild the program.

With this season, I'd use it to show that young players can get a lot of PT at UT. That shouuld help get more young players next year and help the ones we have improve for the 2009 season. I'd forget about anyone's future in the NFL this year and focus solely on the program.

I'd follow Lloyd Carr's example last year and help recruit the best candidate for the job for next year. I'd tell the players first that they were playing the last season that I'd be coaching, that it had been a fun ride, and that I'd work like heck for the underclassmen to get the best coach and staff UT can attract for them to finish their time at UT.

In short, I'd do whatever I could to make the program I love so much as successful as it can be for the decades that lie ahead.

Comparing Bear Bryant to Phillip Fulmer is an insult to Bear Bryant.
