How would you persuade a gifted a high school football player to attend UT.What would your pitch be?

pro-style offense, 100,000+ seat stadium, television exposure, former Vols in the NFL. . .I'd start there.

Make sure Fulmer closed the deal for me after taking that girl with me to tell him all that other stuff.

107K, 4th in current players in the NFL...

The "family" angle seems to have alot of appeal too. I don't know if the recent strong discipline is always helpful but hopefully it will help attract the right kind of players.

Can't promise playing for championships unfortunately, so it would have to be ex-vols in NFL, facilities, TV exposure, and fan support.

Are we just a farm team for the NFL now?

Yeah, it's too bad that Fulmer doesn't have any championship trophies sitting around.

That is a good point, but a 18 year old highschool recruit was 11 years old when that happened. Do you think they were watching the NC in 98 or Nickolodeon?

Exactly. These kids are thinking about the future, not living 9 years ago in the past.

Well then, it's a shame that we didn't get any good recruits this year.. Oh wait..

Yeah, let's see what we do with them. I remember another number one recruiting class that we had in the past then proceeded to go 5-6.

Wasn't that the year they were all mostly freshmen? I could be wrong though.

We've had a top rated recruiting classes before 2005 class...

Top rated as in 1-5? I'd actually like to see a list of where Tennessee has been ranked in recruiting over the year. Anyone have such a thing?

Besides TVA, that's not the point. He was suggesting that recruits don't want to come here anymore because of our lack of Championships since '98, that's just not true.

Nobody can accuse Fulmer of not being a good recruiter.

The problem comes when you start discussing what becomes of them after the come here (development).

Yeah, it's too bad none of our Vols have been drafted by an NFL team over the years.

You're talking apples and oranges. Draft status vs wins and losses on the field are seperate items.

No excuse for these 5 guys that were drafted on the first day to be a part of a 5-6 team in 2005.

.
and that is the primary point here.......in reality, what we've been doing the past 3 years or so is nothing more than what UGA did thruout the 90's. UGA regularly put talent in the NFL, maybe not as much as we did at the same time, but when you go back and look at the rosters of some of those GA teams in the 90's, they are littered with NFL talent and never sniffed an SEC title.

and for us, minus the last two years, we've been spotty at best at putting top notch talent in the NFL since the late 90's.

the recruiting rankins aside (that top ranked class in 05 i think it was, go back and look at how many of those guys aren't even on the team today), we only had 1 1st round guy last year, and that was the first one what, 3 years?

all that said, the talent at TN today does appear to be back to a "normal" level, and looks to be getting better with the guys coming in.

but it has always raised a question with me about the sheer number of TN players playing in the NFL.....vs. what the teams they were on did in college......
