And yet some folks are willing to write off 2018 and give Pruitt 4 to 5 years to be successful.
More than likely we will have this same thread in a few years with a different name.
Many Vol fans have no patience.
Butch Jones got a full 3 year honeymoon....and it was more than the fraud deserved.
Nobody remotely held him accountable for anything that happened in his first year, 2013. Not the 59-0 run we gave up vs Oregon, not the beatdowns vs Alabama and Auburn...not even the bad loss at home to an average at best Vandy team. We understood the program was in pitiful shape and that it was gonna take some time to get it turned around. Jones, in his first 2 years here, was wildly supported, almost universally with no conditions. It wasnt until year 3 that many of us began to fully realize that he lacked substance, wasnt the guy, was way in over his head, was little more than a carnival barker. You otoh still havent figured that out.
JP will get a similar honeymoon/grace period and, like was done with Butch Jones, he will be given a tremendous amount of leeway in year one, as he should be, since the program is in similar, rotten shape after 5 years of Sgt Carter as it was after 3 years of Derek Dooley.
JP will be given 3 years, as he should be, to see if he can make this a winning, championship program again. If hes either won a championship (division, conference or national) at that point or has has the team playing at a championship level, something your boy Lyle never even got close to, then fans will be even more patient and understanding and thrilled that we actually have the right guy since Phil Fulmer.
If not, hell get people calling for a change in years 4 and 5, just as happened to your man crush LAJ.
