I've been hanging around here a few years now. Amazing to me the characters involved in this forum.

Mods, football might not be the exact forum for this, but be aware I put the word 'Tailgate' in there, (Implies football). Feel free to move to the nether regions, (like pub) if so inclined.

I've grown to respect and disdain quite a few folks here. It has dawned on me that VolNation has an amazing tapestry of people and opinions. For the most part, one thing in common is that we a) love the Vols b) hate bama/uga/uf and dooley. Maybe not in that order. Oh.. forgot..Kiffin and Layla is hot, regardless of marrying "him".

OK so... in order to not disrepect anyone, I'm not going to throw out 20 Volnation names. I could, but I know many are lurkers that don't post so much, but still, when they do, contribute a lot. So if you aren't in this list, and you are "good" here - please don't be offended. I'm just rattling this off sort of off the top of my head.

Be aware my goal here is to spark some (hopefully) good will and kudos to those that bring great insight to the VOLS, and the season that is about to begin. Feel free to give a shout out to some of the posters that you feel offer value.

Also, consider the negavols too - I mean.. wouldn't it be boring at a tailgate if we all had the same opinion?

I'll throw a few names out there just to get the ball rolling. Please, if I don't mention you, don't get mad, just jump in.

First, let's start with the trolls, you know who you are. Many from Florida, Bama and...... (well those two anyway). Florida... with the exception of Homer, a couple have been around a while and have a kept us in a reality check. Funny coincidence that they have been here about as long as the streak. I've always wondered if they'd go away if UF lost. Maybe we will find out soon. Their newborns are seniors in high school now, and haven't seen UT beat them, so until the streak ends, all we can say is "thank you sir, may I have another".

So, here goes - the folks I'd like to meet and know more about:

Start off with Freak. Man - he has set up an amazing community of social discord and all things orange. Hat's off to him. Would love to have about a half hour to understand his trials and tribulations here.

Go to guys with the scoop: Gosh, I've never seen bad info come from Deerpark, Go For Win, and a few others. Definetly good to have an inside track. They are impressive with to the point and accurate information.

Impressed with VFL-82-JP - always classy, takes the high road. Pertinent posts.Only flaw is kids at Vandy. What can I say? God bless those that serve our country.

As for a tailgate, I'd put some high gravity beer in the keg and ask anyone who has posted in the Paul Bain thread (merged) to come by and chug a few quarts. These are some funny guys. This includes you dduncan4163.

As for keeping all things Vandy in perspective, I'd love to drink a cold one with Grand Vol.

D4H... would love to see you at the tailgate. You would be a hoot. You'd need to stop watching film long enough to join in, and oh.. by the way, if you want one of those high gravity beers out of the keg, we need some ID.

So, I'm stopping here. Many more names I could and probably should throw out there. I'm tired and it's late, so don't be butthurt.
It's still the offseason (But not by much) so a stupid thread like this is still (probably) ok.

VolNation is a great place to spend time - for those who love the University of Tennessee. We may not always agree here, but it's entertaining and informative. Freak.. you do a great job - with your sticky's and videos. I'm in awe.

I hope folks will chime in here and give kudos to others I didn't mention. This is a great site.

I also hope that y'all keep it positive. Throw some good karma out there for Volnation.

Anonymity keeps us all 6' 4" 235 ripped warriors, so it might be awkward for some of you guys. Plus there might be some sucker punches flying in.

Heh, I can't do it, PT. I started coming up with my own tailgate invitation list ... it was at about 30 names and still quickly adding more when I reallized...there are a WHOLE LOT of really awesome folks on these boards. I'd love to meet them all...okay, for a few, I'd prefer to have the police patrolling regularly, hehe. But still, it's crazy how many folks there are on these boards whose views I enjoy reading and would love to see and hear face to face.

So instead of doing it by name, I'll have to go by personality type:

-- The leaders who keep things rocking here, starting with Freak (okay, I said I wasn't going to name names, and--with one more exception--I'm really not going to). The mods, everyone who "maintains the sandbox" for us.

-- The insiders. This is both former players and staff, like Travis Stephens (see, that's the other name I couldn't help naming!), and current ones. Folks who have the scoop and, God bless them, walk that tightrope between revealing too much too early and not sharing enough.

-- The debate society. I'd probably put myself in this group; anyone whose ever written a diatribe would fit, heh. Folks who really like to dig down into the details of any Vols topic.

-- The jokesters. There are several people here with really nice comedic touches.

-- The lovably insane. You know, the ones who believe it's 15-0, no doubt, every single year ... or who are obsessed with that one player far beyond what the player's mom and dad would even be ... or who only post after five JD and Cokes. :)

-- The soldiers, sailors, airmen, marines, and coastguardsmen among us, and those who serve at home, too: the police, firemen, nurses, teachers, everyone who could earn a whole lot more money but had a calling to sacrifice their own well-being for something bigger than them. God bless each of them and their families.

-- The good old country boys and girls, many of whom already fit into one of the categories above but shine for representing what's venerable about the great land we call Tennessee.

and finally,

-- The young guns. We have a bunch of young blood here in VolNation, guys and gals who are in school now (some not even UT, they're still in high school) who are already just as orange-blooded as us old dogs. God bless them all, it's great having another generation of Vols for Life at the tailgate.

So there you go, I know I'd be broke just covering the bar tab, but there are a WHOLE lot of folks I'd love to meet face to face before a Tennessee football game, and share a drink with.

Sorry folks, not playing the high school "my clique is cooler than yours" game. I'll tailgate with anyone supporting the Vols and will place a priority on those doling out Jack or Patron shots.
