What's the point of spending 300+ gazillion dollars on renovating an already wonderful Neyland Stadium if you're going to bring in a Dooleyesque football coach. You can add a coat of paint but Neyland is still going to be damn ugly with 30,000 shivering butts in the seats at halftime.

The best coaches in America all have at a couple of things in common. They want to work for the best pay and have reasonable control of their environment. That's not them being a money whores and control freaks, that's what we all do and want . And it sure doesn't mean they will get lazy and the product will suffer. The product is their cash cow. UT fans are going to be even more pissed than they already are if they find out you tried to do this on the cheap.

Mr. Currie, you can get the coach Tennessee needs. He's out there, pay him what he wants and just tell him you'll stay out of the way. BTW you may have to accept the fact that a winning football coach at Tennessee will be your boss.

You can't name a new football coach after Haslam! This is at the core of all of this. Davenport, Currie and Haslam all have stars in their eyes about building a great temple while forgetting they are supposed to be shepherding a great football program to occupy it. East Tennessee State University couldbuild a billion dollar stadium... but they would still be ETSU with a mediocre at best football team.

I think you'll see them pump the brakes on the renovation after they bring in a Butch Jones clone as a coach. The revenues and donations just won't be there.

Jimmy is his boss.

He, likely, never had plans to be searching for a new head coach at this point, only to announce the renovations...

"Today, an important milestone in the planning process has been reached, as the University of Tennessee Board of Trustees earlier this afternoon approved our request to increase the scope and budget of the next phase of the Neyland Stadium renovations to $180 million."

I've had kids at UT for the last 5 years. They have been tearing down and rebuilding all kinds of stuff. I'd love to know what that last 5 year construction budget has been. I write a check at the start of each semester. Guess I'm paying for some of that.

Point is, nobody blinks at the cost of construction on college campuses these days. Has nothing to do with football. Construction for constructions sake.

If they hire this assclown from NC they’re going to need more than 300 million to rebuild a burned down stadium.

Hopefully there are some classrooms, new science labs, completing the student center, research labs are being constructed. This is the University of Tennessee. The majority of the youth on campus are not athletes.
