Yeah but underperforming for UCLA is like underperforming for Alabama. If you aren't in contention for the title every single year you are considered underperforming.

But you're given every single edge to get there, at both jobs. Howland had talent second to none at UCLA and kept finishing second, and fifth and sixth in the Pac12, to less talented teams.

Yes, everyone knows. He won the Pac12 title. Lost in he conf. tourney. Got a 6 seed. Got upset in the first round of the tourney. Got canned because his seat was so hot even winning the Pac12 couldn't save him if he wasn't going to start winning NCAA games.

You conveniently forgot the 4 times he finished 1st. Made it to the NCAA tourney 7 our of his 10 years.

Also note. 1st in 2 of his 4 years in Big East
And... 1st 2 of 5 years in Big sky

In the NCAA tourney in 10 of his 19 years coaching. Including 2 sweet sixteen, 2 final 4 and 1 runner up.

I wouldn't mind UT's record looking like that over the course of the next 19 years.
