and the rankings our teams that are left have on the schedule....and win the SECCG.....not only can we play in a BCS game (SEC Champs auto bid).....with a couple of losses here and there, we have a shot a the National Title game!! So does a few other 2 loss teams already.......I know it's a longshot, but hell, this is the craziest season I can ever remember......USF may be the only team in the BCS Title game with no blemishes on their record!! I expect the 2nd team to have at least 2 losses

OK guys, let me have it

You guys need to go look at key games......not in the SEC but PAC 10, Big 10 and a few others ranked up there....there is gonna be 2 loss teams winning their conferences........give it a chance, do some research......TENNESSEE is in the driver's seat, but we just don't know how far we can drive the bus to yet!!

The main reason Tennessee CANNOT be in the national championship, and if they did it would have an asterisk next to it forever:

We lost to Florida by 39 points.

National Champions need to dominate a season. Losing a game by a fieldgoal is one thing. Losing by 39 points is another. you cannot possibly claim to be a "National Champion" when one team beat you by 39 points.

I guess we agree to disagree here......cuz mustard on the hot dog points won't influence the voters especially in the coaches poll if a team is THE BEST out there come the first of DEC

the best team out there doesn't lose by 39 points 3 months prior.

I see your point......and that was an embarrassing moment.......but we comeback from all of that and reign supreme.....the voters will vote right and not like a disgruntled Tennessee fan who is mad and embarrassed at 39 point defeat

Like I said, I'd like to go to the national championship. I also know that this year's football has been weird... but we will not go to the national championship. We had an extremely embarrassing loss against Florida, and an ugly loss against Cal. We will end up in a New Years Day bowl if we keep heading the direction we are at. If we get to the SECCG and somehow win it we will go to a BCS game. Either of those scenarios I am happy with, but I am also realistic.

There is WAYYYYY to much football left to play to think about running the table. Frankly, Arky and Kentucky scare me to death.

I dont know if to many teams with one loss already, will have another loss. I dont see TN in the NC, but they have the chance to go to the SECCG(we all know that) they have to take it one game at at time, Bama is probably gonna have one of the biggest attendances this week in Tuscaloosa, that place will be rockin come Saturday, though TN has a good road record they are gonna have to play solid football.

And Bama would love NOTHING better than to crush our hopes for a chance at the SEC title.

Very dangerous game.

I find it amazing that some of us pretend the Florida game didn't happen.

I've heard this rhetoric before in past seasons. I'm sure Florida fans find it laughable that we regurgitate this same line every other year.

"If only we played Florida at the end of the season"
"we're a different team now than we were then"

Let's just accept that we lost that game...then move on.

When I mentioned playing Florida later in the year, it wasn't so much for a better chance of beating them as it was for keeping the season exciting up to the very end. I can't speak for the whole board, but as for myself, I don't waste my time wondering what Florida fans find laughable. I couldn't care less. And as for being amazed that we "pretend" the Florida game never happened, maybe we just have the ability to hope for the best, even after a bad loss, that others lack.

In 2001, Nebraska lost their final regular season game to Colorado 62 - 36. After TN lost to LSU in the SEC championship game, Nebraska sneeked into the National Title game to play Miami. Colorado was very close to the #2 BCS spot that year with 2 losses. While I agree, the odds are totally against it, the embarrassing loss to the Gators doesn't absolutely eliminate TN from any possible chance. The 2001 cornhusker team proves that. It is possible.

but there might be a number of one loss team ahead of us

If you play a tough schedule you get penalized and if your in a weak conference you get rewarded.

The current system is unfair, and will be that way until Div 1 gets a playoff. It's ridiculous to decide it based on a schedule when a team who plays a weak schedule can get in over teams playing tough schedule.

South Florida would not be undefeated rght now if they played in the SEC. There are probably 3 teams better then USF in the SEC right now.

That could very well be the case. The only point I was making is that it is possible to get embarrassed in a game and still make it to the title game. Also, Colorado was a team that had 2 losses and was very close to getting to the #2 BCS spot.
