If we don't get Freeze, Auburn will. Other possibilities?

If anything, we need a radically different culture in Knoxville. Not sure why you have placed so much emphasis on this aspect. Just because a dolt likes cornbread doesn't mean he needs to be coaching at UT.

I do appreciate the platform Freak has given us to discuss all of this, but nearly everything on here is moot.
CJP is staying, and even if he leaves, we won’t hire a competent replacement.
JG will likely keep playing a large portion, CJP doesn’t know what adjustments are and apparently doesn’t know how to develop or evaluate talent.
We are stuck in the cellar for a long time. Can we get out? Yes, but those in power don’t care enough to make it happen.

Tennessee will not hire Freeze. If you are a fan and have any understanding of the people in Tennessee administration you would know they will not hire the guy.

Agree. How does this stuff get started. Is there any hope for a small measure of happiness?
I get it folks, we are VFL! Win or loose I’m still and will always Bleed Orange.

If that is the case they need to get the hell out. They need to be invited to leave if they won't do so of their own accord.

This would be my short list...

1. Hugh Freeze (Liberty)
2. Matt Campbell (Iowa State)
3. Luke Fickell (Cincinnati)
4. Tom Herman (Texas)
5. Gary Patterson (TCU)

And one "dark horse" candidate I would kick the tires on is Chris Klieman at Kansas State.

Neal Brown will have a losing record at WVa when this season concludes.

It’s 1 or 2 or bust for me.

But, Klieman is an interesting thought. There is no denying his work at NDState.

The guy can flat out coach and K. State is an impossible place to recruit to. At the very least, he's a proven winner. How many FCS championships did he win?

We can't hire Kiffin because of Fulmer's ego. We can't hire Freeze because of Fulmer's ego.

Spotting a trend?

Asking for a friend.
Definitely. And another trend that seems to lurk is that only about 1% of all coaches fit the “culture “ of UT.
Maybe it’s the culture and egos that’s holding UT down yet a great number on here support them.
Maybe we need to re-evaluate

There is winning culture and losing culture. No other culture matters. Nick Saban was born 40 miles from Pittsburgh and coached in the Midwest all his life before landing at LSU. No one cared where he was from. He wins.

John Cooper is from Powell, he won 111 games at Ohio State. When he was winning 10 or 11 games and going to BCS bowls every year he was fine. When he started losing he got fired.

Winning culture and losing culture are all that matters. Even here. Everyone loved Bruce Pearl while he was winning. He was as opposite of Tennessee culture as it gets.
Glad there’s a few that understands this

Sark is lurking in tidewater.
I think Sarkisian is going to get interest from Auburn and Texas. I also think Meyer would LOVE to poke a finger at Saban and hire away Sark as OC at Texas if he takes it..... with the quid pro quo that Sarkisian takes over Texas when Meyer hangs it up after he/if he wins a Natty with his 3rd conference.

Fulmer and UT cannot afford to fire Pruitt this year and likely not next year. COVID has changed the economics. TV eyeballs are increased but disposable income for buying from TV ads and team merchandise is down. TV deals, merch deals, etc are going to be revaluated. UT knows this. The bean counters are going to balk at a big buyout/buyin for a new coach..... or at least they should.

The SEC is a business fueled by huge ad revenue and merch sales. I dunno about y'all but I'm watching the budget a little closer these days. Black Friday/Small Business Saturday/Cyber Monday sales SUCKED. UT will make the prudent business decision when it comes to millions for another buyout.

Freeze wants the UT job. He was a successful Memphis high school coach before beating Saban twice at Ole Miss. No better fit than him.

The only other coach I'd consider is Bob Stoops, & no way would we spend the money to get him, nor would he probably take the job. However, he's the only other cultural fit that UT should consider if we fire Pruitt.

The Tennessee Vols have a legitimate chance to land Hugh Freeze - A to Z Sports Nashville

It's clear that even a top coordinator at an SEC school isn't the formula for success. Witness Pruitt, Muschamp, even Smart. Ditto for a mid-major guy moving up. Jones & Dooley are examples of that.

Urban Meyer is going to Texas, if anywhere. We don't want him anyway, as he's not the cultural fit we need. Fickell at Cincy is the flavor of the month, but we already went that route with Jones.

If UT is going to hire a new head coach, it absolutely must be someone who has proven himself to be a winner as a head coach at a Power 5 school & is a cultural fit at UT. Here's a name that fits that description that would jump to get the job & would most likely be successful here if we're not gonna go get Freeze:

Neal Brown - Wikipedia

I have long contended that West Virginia is the proving ground for the type of coach UT should hire in both football & basketball. Nestled in the Appalachian Mountains, Morgantown shares the same culture as Knoxville. Facilities here are far better & the SEC is a huge step up from a Big 12 school. WVa is paying Brown only $3 mil a year. We could easily get him for $4 mil & he would crawl to get here.

He's only in his 2nd year there, but he has that program on the rise. He won big games when he was at Troy. He played for Hal Mumme & Mike Leach at Kentucky. If you're looking for an up & coming head coach on the rise that has Power 5 head coaching experience, there's no one else that would be a better cultural fit.

He's very big on his Christian witness & active with FCA. Would fit in well & could do as well as what we have now. I like his OL coach at WV better than we one we have now for sure. He hasn't proven yet he could hire a staff that could compete in the SEC, but our current UT staff appears to be grossly overpaid.

Again, I'm advocating for Freeze, not Brown, but if Bob Stoops isn't someone we would go after or that would come if we did, Brown would be as good as Fickell, in my opinion, & just as good as whoever else the Haslams or Fulmer would pick.

That brings up another question. The Haslams want Fulmer out, which is why Fulmer will seek to keep Pruitt, as he Phillip may be out the door with Jeremy if Pruitt is fired. Dan Wolken in USA Today said this week that letting Fulmer pick the next coach would be a disaster.

I'm happy with Fulmer as AD, & the choices that the Haslams would make would be unpopular ones, as they want someone who owes their job just to them alone & doesn't have a widespread following among Vol Nation.

You shot you’re self in the balls with the culture fit and Hugh Freeze spill
At this point in UT football, I’d take the devil Obama, it he could win
