If TN is lagging in NIL deals can someone explain why?

I doubt Pruitt & Co were cheating off their own funds. Seems like for the business community an opportunity for some ROI off the field makes more financial sense than funding bagmen.

And yes, I get there is a bit of risk involved with public deals considering a kid representing your business does something stupid. However, that doesn’t seem to be stopping NIL’s at other programs.

Skeptism due to piss poor previous product on the field and bvs have played major rolls.

1. You're right on the *skepticism. Agencies aren't going to sign a big contract to a UT kid just for him to go off the rails and do anything while the team loses most of it's games.

2. BVS has nothing to do with NIL. Nada. Zilch.

3. BVS definitely has nothing to do with rolls.

The University still can not pay the players, correct? So this is not a UT issue. Other than the Haslams how much big money donors do we have? Maybe Malibu, Mastercraft, Sea ray, Scripps, Hackney, Teamhealth, and some of the other larger businesses can chip in but are they willing to give millions every year? Would you be more willing to buy a Mastercraft if you saw Hooker advertising for it?

Didn't it come out that one of the local reporters anonymously said that Pruitt stopped at an ATM and withdrew money to give to someone to give to a recruit? Or was that all part of the McDonald's bag theory stuff that may or may not have happened?

Places like Tejas A$M have "programs" in place that allows for business relationships to be built privately (via alumni mostly). In other words... most other big time schools have agents (alumni/interested business owners) that will reach out to prospective players to discuss deals available, etc. The "rule" states that the AD of each university cannot be the mediator between the athlete and the sponsor. I HOPE that UT is doing the same. But I doubt it.

TeamHealth is not in the advertising business. While it is one of the largest corporations in Tennessee, they have a preference to keep their image low key due to the liabilities associated with the medical industry. And I am not sure that the administrative people in that organization concentrates on UT or athletics. UTMC and Covenant are their concerns in the East Tennessee area.

Businesses are going to think twice about giving out big deals to these kids after seeing big names like Spencer Rattler flop on the field this year. They’re not allowed to condition deals on a player’s performance or enrollment by NCAA rules. So if the kid busts and they don’t see the ROI they hoped for, they’re SOL.

Real money people know it’s not a good time to flush money down the toilet for a football team... dark economic times ahead, which means great investment opportunities ahead. They care more about themselves and their families than football fans.

If that were happening it’s because a person or business hasn’t provided more money to players for the use of their likeness……usually for awareness or to promote a business, product, or service.

The biggest pile of money out there with some potential ability to legally add some deals is the Dish Network/Sling TV guy. You don't have to use many fingers to count the number of commercials that play all over TV that have NOT included a clip with UT athletics footage. Not sure if he is motivated to do so or not, but he could pay guys for use of their image I WOULD THINK.

Not sure of FEDX kingpinns sports heritage. Could feature several schools if desired,

Don't know the rules, but some small deals seem practical for players EVERYWHERE from appearances at car lots. Ken Rice hired guys before some rules were put in place 50 years ago.

Cracker Barrel? Little Debbie? Dollywood? All kinds of other Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg attractions always trying to get an edge. I am sure there are others out there that could get involved with lower end deals where pictures or appearances have value. Will be interesting to follow the growth of this whole NIL deal.

Yes from the NFL!
That’s contrary to about everything I’ve heard and read. If it’s true though then I wish him nothing but happiness and am grateful for what he did at Tennessee. Don’t think he’s leaving just yet though

Most are already burnt out.

Gotta find new money who think they actually helped win the game by giving money.

I've heard Michigan pays their players a % of their jersey sales.

Dish guy as well. Anderson has a media company. There’s some that can be done.

Most of our issue is Tennessee isn’t a national powerhouse anymore. You’re not getting the type of players that get these huge NIL deals in recruiting.
