If this doesn't get you fired up for Alabama nothing will.

I was in the South End Zone when Dale put his helmet on Bo Rambo Jackson's knee and took Bo out of the game against Auburn, who was No. 1 coming into Neyland Stadium. As memory serves me, it split Dale's helmet and he came out for a play while he got a new helmet. UT beat the dog crap out of the War Buzzards that day. Dale Jones led the way on defense. Dale and Raynock Thompson are two of my all time favorite VOLS on defense... Along with Reggie White.
We gonna kick some Bammer Azz on Saturday.

GO VOLS!!!!

And, if I remember correctly, what makes his story even better, is that he was initially a walk-on.

I first heard this recording last yr before the Bama game took place. Occasionally I play it through Bluetooth in the old truck driving down some back roads of Lynchburg. I get emotional every time. The message was exactly spot on. These young folks talk about Florida, Georgia, etc but Tennessee truly has ONE rival THE rival... Alabama. I'm only 43 so I can recall Dale Jones only from 1985 and 86 but I remember mostly the streak that followed the 85 season. Tennessee had won while I was in kindergarten. I didn't see them win again until 95 when I was a freshman in high school! How sweet it was tho. The blowout in Birmingham! 41-14! Manning to Kent on play number one! I recall my father jumping with excitement out of his recliner and the look on his face through the whole game. I'm sure it's the same look I had on my face this past yr as my 3 yr old looked on as Tennessee finally won again ending another long streak. The caller was right. It's a birthright. Tennessee is a special place. It's a special game... a special rivalry. I hope the new schedules don't bring any change to the "Third Saturday in October". But if this game isn't played annually, we will always have the memories. We'll never forget John Ward describing the deflection to Mike Terry for the interception, Manning to Kent, Dale Jones' pick in "midair" and Jay Graham's 80 yarder causing Ward to exclaim..."Why not run it every time"? So when October comes and the leaves turn red and orange in preparation of the spectacle that awaits as a slight chill works it way through the rolling hills in anticipation of cigars to be lit, just know to the true fans of both schools the "Third Saturday in October" will live on forever! It's our birth right.

Go Big Orange! 🍊

Nobody I would rather defeat than Alabubba. Best game I ever witnessed in person was the butt whipping of Miami in NOLA. No loss hurts more than getting beat by Peabody High.

I still have the front page from the Knoxville Sentinel after that game framed and hanging on the wall. The headline read, in orange ink "41-14". It was a glorious day.

I also still remember the radio announcer for the 1993 game (I was listening at work in Kingsport) saying, when it was all over, "and so the game ends like it began, tied". I'll never forget that. Heartbreaker.

Dale is before my time but I definitely remember Thompson growing up. Thompson and Westmoreland are amongst my favorite LB's to wear the T. I know they call Penn St LBU but we had a run for a good min on some great LB's.

1993 was a tough one to take. I love the old saying of Navy Coach Eddie Erdelatz... "A tie is like kissing your sister. Nobody wins!"
Come to think of it, that explains why Alabama was so excited that day! Haha

Love them orange britches!
I'd forgotten that injury. Know that season ended in an amazing way, but that injury was such a blow at the time. Still, it's kinda bad mojo to be talking QB injuries. While I don't have confidence in Milton in this game and in general, we really need him to stay healthy and finish this season. Someone sacrifice a chicken before Saturday.
