If Tennessee chooses state law over NIL pledge, it risks being kicked out of SEC

Is there not already limits on transfers? Like you have to transfer during a certain window?
No. Any student athlete can hit the portal at any time. The NCAA limits when they can be picked up at another school, for now, but even that is being challenged.

I hate that athletes weren’t able to profit in the past. However what we have currently isn’t right either. There needs to be guidelines in place and some of those need to protect student athletes from bad actors like street “agents” and the like.
Why isn't it right? There are guidelines in place. The 1887 Interstate Commerce Act and the 1890 Simpson Antitrust Act.

There are a couple examples of bad actors, but they are Outliers.

You're just throwing words you don't understand together... You are the one that laid down the ultimate false equivalency comparing slavery to the state of college sports. What you did was whats called a straw man argument AKA the Fox News special. It's a very common tactic these days.

A straw man argument is a form of logical fallacy where someone misrepresents their opponent's argument, often by oversimplifying or exaggerating it, and then refutes the misrepresentation rather than the original argument. Essentially, they're arguing against a distorted version of their opponent's position, making it easier to defeat
So nice to read someone using Platonian logic, the fallacy list, and logic these days. Just when I thought critical thinking was dead. I was chastised not long ago by a young person how “all that” was outdated and no longer applicable. I reminded them the principle of how a light switch operates, as well as digitization (0 = off, 1 = on), and machine languages that allowed computers to work at all came directly from the mind of Plato and his system of determining what is true. The new way is just assume it’s true unless it fails then make corrections. It’s how the NYTimes, CNN, and almost every major US media operates these days.

Approving SEC budget now in Donde Plowman's purview as new executive committee president.

If there is any merit to booting TN from the SEC, the SEC is making confusing decisions.

Its because all this reporting is false.. there is no news its just people going off a Bama fan posting that UT should be kicked from SEC and then the telephone game. If you don't know the Telephone game aka Chinese whispers, google it. It's what a most 'news' these days is.

It's a versatile cartoon, what can I say? I was poking fun at the absurd and nonsensical comparisons he was making. The rulings are in place, and more are likely coming down the track at some point as things get hashed out and refined.
You tried to refute logical arguments with a mene clip and speculation???

Bwahahahahaha!

Ah, the illustrious clown, S.C. StrawMan, has taken the center ring once again! What new treasures from your "word of the day" calendar will you grace us with now?

To address your question, no. You making absurdly hyperbolic comparisons does not constitute an "argument". You're intelligent and special and everyone should take you super seriously, though.

You're denial of reality is noted..
Why do you like exploitation?

You're the poster boy of the day for the old saying "Hit dog barks".

Also SEC and NCAA are stupid to ask Tennessee and Vandy to sign it. You can't make a contract that violates law, it is unenforceable. Both schools could sign it all day but the agreement would get struck down. It is basic contracts 101.

I have not read through all of this - but this says it all. Tennessee and Vandy operate in the state of Tennessee. UT is a public university funded by state dollars. They must follow state rules. Asking them to sign a contract that violates the state law, breaks the state law. It will not hold up in court.

The law is meant to protect the schools within the state of Tennessee and given that these schools are funded by state dollars, it protects the folks that live and work in the state from having to pay everything they have to a set athletes not only in the state but across the country when all the law suits happen - and they will. That would divert money from things the state really needs - like healthcare, food, emergency services, etc. - you know those things that folks really need to survive.

To troll, Tennessee and Vandy should rejoin the Southern Conference and invite Alabama, Kentucky, North Carolina, Virginia, Tulane, Sewanee, and other potential ACC or SEC holdouts to join. It could be 1932 all over again. Heck, let's get 30-40 teams in it. Perhaps reignite the Cumberland University vs Georgia Tech football rivalry.

This - I suspect there are lots of schools that would agree to join up with Tennessee and create a super league that would challenge whatever teams are left in the SEC, B1G et al.

Possibly but that was definitely a joke alluding to the fact that the SEC teams were a part of the Southern Conference before joining the SEC in 1933.

Your denial of reality is noted as well.
Sensitive, much?
You undermine any valid point you might have by acting like a prick. That's just the reality.
Also, the comma isn't necessary — it's not 'Sensitive, pause, much?' It's 'Sensitive much?' as a two-word rhetorical question, unless you're trying to channel William Shatner.

I realized that and while I am not that old, know the history :). I just think that the way this is all going there may eventually be a stepping back to the past to move forward.

That's B.S. The facts fong change because you dislike how they are presented

I should have not read this thread - it got crazy at a certain point with illogical comparisons.
Those comparisons are vey factual, as I pointed out item by item.

Your dislike for them does not make them illogical. It just makes it painful and caused the hit dogs to bark.

Wrong, Skippy. I'm using words that YOU don't understand. Google can be your friend if you let it.

I don't understand either. Can we back up and you start with "fong"? Google suggested I correct my spelling and try again.

Actually no - the one comparison was not logical at all.

It is crazy when folks try to take the past and extend an argument to the modern day. No comparison at all.

Many years ago, I did a report on early college football and it was eye opening. I love to read about it some time. The funniest story is that the original conference setup in the called the SIAA (which was more of an NCAA type organization than actually Conference) had to disband due to Alabama being accused of cheating:

On May 11, 1893, after a full season of SIAA baseball play, an arbitration committee set out to determine whether Vanderbilt, Alabama, or Sewanee had topped the Southern Division, as the teams had a split record with no clear winner. This was made more difficult due to an eligibility controversy between Vanderbilt and Alabama, with Vanderbilt claiming that two Alabama baseball players were ineligible due to professionalism rules. Owing to this, Vanderbilt claimed Alabama should forfeit two wins to Vanderbilt, despite losing one of the games 2–1.[8]

Some things never change :).
