I could see him at LG with Tatum at RT

but could also see him at RT with newcomer Jahmir Johnson, Ryan Johnson, or Locklear at LG.

Tatum is still only at 280, he doesn't need to be playing tackle in this league

I agree. That's one reason why I ask. If he's our starting RT I think we're in trouble... but if we can line up with Richmond, Johnson/Johnson/Locklear, Kennedy, Hall, Smith I think we've got a chance to be decent up front.

If Smith returns.....

Now it's "if".
Do some on this site know more than is being said (which is nothing) about Smith"s maladies? Sure wish we could be told something.
Does it appear that the staff is preparing the structure of the line to be "Smithless"?? There should be some inkling by the way the staff is reacting, as to other players prep, to his returning....

According to his 247 page he's 281. So unless you have something that proves otherwise

Serious question: Does 247 really have detailed information about the current condition of players? I ask because Pruitt obviously does not want that information to be common knowledge. You look at the roster now and there are no heights or weights listed. So how would 247 know?

FUN FACT:

#Vols average star rating for the CURRENT roster (players already on campus AND players who will join the team in the summer) is 3.36.

Florida’s is 3.32.

Any time you can be better than the Gators is a good day. 🍊

It's a good question. I'm also very curious to see how Nathan Niehaus develops. He's currently listed as backup LT. He's been very overlooked, but he has the potential to be an elite Tackle with the right coaching.

We have talent on this line. Just not enough bodies. And they've been poorly coached for years.

IF IF Trey is able to play this fall I think where he plays is 100% dependant on the rest of the OL personnel...I feel good with TS playing any spot on the line...

If we have a healthy Smith and Hall on this line we will be solid with our first front five no matter how we shake the tree. Without both I don't think there is a QB in the world that could have success throwing the ball.

OP, change the thread title to "When Smith returns, does he play guard or tackle?

He plays LT. Now due multiple operations, Chance Hall may be a step slower and have to play Guard, but he seems ready to come back so maybe he goes back to RT and we slide Richmond inside.

With so many moving pieces arriving this fall (FR/JUCO), it's gonna be hard to say until they have a few weeks of play.

Is Kennedy the Bama Grad Transfer? What about Carvin?
