If Pitt and UT played again tomorrow...

Most of our turnovers are a matter of bad decision making and AMass getting the ball stolen from her. I do hope that next year's team produces a real point guard. One would think that we would be a better thinking team at this point. Also we pass the ball far too much when we have an open shot. Graves can shot the 10 to 15 footer, so why put the ball on the floor for a closer look or make an ill advised pass? As one poster stated why try to power a shot over and into a mass of arms. Did Pitt mug Graves and get away with it, and no fouls were called, yes they did, however, when there are three people sagging in on you feed the ball out.

Carter made two outstanding dribble drives to the basket and scored, why is it we don't see that but every now and then? We seem to have the parts for an amazing team, however, we just do not seem to bring it all together consistently. Yes I know we win anyway, and I am happy for that, but bad decision making is a potential road to disaster.

I like your post and agree with you 100% also mass is the wrong person you want handling the ball. As for Graves same old story. But i will say this that drive might not work against the Zagas front line they are tall.

Graves has the speed to beat most defenders 1-on-1, so I like seeing her attack the basket instead of settling for the jump shot. But she does need to recognize when to kick the ball out if a help defender comes over. Sometimes, she reverts to her form last year where she takes bad shots and hopes to be bailed out by the whistle. She needs to mix it up and not be predictable, but her strength is not hitting the jump shot, but attacking the rim.

With regards to two of Massengale's turnovers, that was solid defense by Kiesel from Pitt...although one was a sloppy handoff from Reynolds (Kiesel was too close and Reynolds should have recognized that one). Massengale is the best ball handler and facilitator on the team, but she's also the best shooter...and this stifles her effectiveness at PG since she is one of the finishers on the team.

I think PG is less of a problem than SG, where Carter either needs to constantly be on the hunt for her shot, or they need to play someone that has a scorer's mentality. Carter needs to make the opposing team's SG work on defense. As you noted, she has the potential, but needs to have the willingness to attack the defense whenever she's on the court.

When She ran the point we had no problems teams would even try to trap or press. And this is not a dig at anyone

Bobbitt and Hornbuckle were a very good starting backcourt combination offensively and defensively. Both were very good at reading the defense and looking to score when the opportunity called for it.
