If Pearl goes which way do you want to go:

Do you want to go after a big name guy at a big program and offer 3 million dollars

Or

Do you want to go after a coach who is a winner at a mid major program like Pearl was?

I say offer the big dollars and get the proven commodity. For evry bruce pearl and Thad Mattas there is the answers of Pelphreys, Stan heaths, Buzz Petersons, Trent Johnsons. that being said I feel the guys that are at good jobs are being paid equal to what we could pay so most coaches would see as lateral move.

Jamie Dixon
Rick Pitino
Rick Barnes
Brad Stevens
Jay Wright
Those guys may be out of reach but then again maybe they want a situation change. Big east may wear on Pitino, Dixon and Wright. Barnes may be tired of being second fiddle to Kansas and Bill self. Brad Stevens may want a conference that he wont always have to finish in top 2 or win conference tourney to dance.

Pitino might not be as far fetched as some would think. Maybe he was just emotional yesterday but his words at least didn't sound too confident that he wanted to continue.

1. Brad Stevens
2. Josh Pastner
3. Chris Mack
4. Chris Mooney

Why Josh Pastner? He's unproven and you seriously don't know what your getting. Obviously a good recruiter and it would break down that Memphis wall we've seemed to have struggled with but wouldnt you say he underachieved with the team he had this year?

1. He's Young. I think it would be a bad decision to hire a coach (even if proven) that isn't
2. He's a hell of a recruiter. I don't think that's debatable. Not only that but I love the type of player he recruits. He recruits speed and scrappiness.
3. Despite being Conference USA, he wins close games. If there is one thing I am absolutely sick of as a ut fan after this season it's losing close games.
4. He was a major contributor during the 2008-2009 season and I believe because he coached under him can beat Calipari
5. I think for the money this might be our best bet

Donnie Tyndall- Morehead State.
He's turned that program around and had 2 ncaa appearances in the last 3 years. I know its an OVC school, but I have watched them play and he is a good coach. 3-20 win season's in a row. Familiar with the region as far as recruiting.

#2 - Mooney @ Richmond

He is much risky than the pearl hire because he has NEVER been at a big program, not even as an assistant coach. He has never recruited the type of players it takes to win in the SEC. He could turn out to be a good hire but it is risky. I will say this though he is a winner! If he can recruit and run a big time program it could work.

I like Gregg Marshall at Wichita State. Young. Success in a mid-major program. Time for him to move up and someone is going to get a great coach.

i like the throwing big money at an already established coach idea. if they could somehow talk mark few from gonzaga. he has one of the highest winning percentages of any active coach, only makes like $800,000 a year at gonzaga and could be even more impressive at a bigger name school with lower academic standards. offer the guy triple that and see if he budges

Resignation and admissions that he received great support from the fans and the AD and that he brought the problems on himself and he also recognizes the need to move on to something else.

A fast-burner with a good record at a Mid Major would be a good choice.

It'll be hard to get a BIG named coach! Can't get them away from their current school. Maybe a coach from a mid major that has done well over the past 5 years.

UT is about to experience what Memphis and Arizona experienced 2 years ago. No established coach, regardless of the amount of $$ offered, will jump at the opportunity to follow the most successful coaches at those programs and have to rebuild the program. Plus, at UT, the coach will have to deal with NCAA sanctions/probation. Not going to get a lot of interest from "name" coaches at Big 6 conferences or top tier mid major programs (i.e. Mark Few).
