IF: New coaches recruiting ability

Kiffin is a good offensive mind, no doubt, but he has also never had to work with lesser talent so to speak. Tennessee tenure aside, the worst he has performed was when he had the USC squad, which was by no means on par with the earlier USC or AL teams.

Who was on scholarship limits during his tenure form Carroll.

Winning %
.625%: Kiffin

.624%: Jones

Right that's what I'm saying. But he would be able to basically bide his time until one came open he'd actually want. I don't think it matters either way, Gruden is a pipe dream IMO.

Point is he wouldn't be here long

If Gruden was to change his mind, and commit to it? Give up his MNF gig, and his QB camp series? All of that is unlikely, but just for giggles, let's say he did it.

He would not pass on all that just for the short term. But the reason it IS a pipe dream is simple. He is in a position that he can come to Knoxville and take bows, and he never has to take the crap our coaches have to live with.

Well he was right about Hurd......soft.

Well...his 1st two years here he was a beast of in this system...only to become soft year 3 and blame the system allegedly that put him on pace to be the all time rusher at Tennessee.

I guess Tee should have specified "will be hella soft and a sideline cancer in year 3."

:dunno:

Have heard all the comments on here about needing a shake up in the coaching front. Here is a question I ask??

If we bring in new coaches would you rather have a stud recruiter or a stud coach that normally doesn't recruit very well?

We have 2 coaches, CTT & CRG ranked in the 247 recruiter rankings (i know it doesn't mean very much) but for discussion humor me-
Who can we get out there that is a true ACE recruiter? Who is at the top of everyones list. We need a couple guys that can recruit their butts off.

take your pick

Scratching my head on that one. Hurd is anything but soft. What he did to himself by quitting will come back on him big time, but Jalen Hurd played tough and strong and everyone knows it.
I think they mean emotionally, but yeah, people that say he is pbysically soft are stupid. But its just like people saying Derick Rodgers (whoever you spell his name) wasnt good after he left.

Mentally soft. Weak minded = soft.

Frank Beamer made a career out of recruiting 3 star guys and coaching them up. I remember watching one of his early VT teams run Alabama out of Nashville in the Music City bowl. Great coaches always get the job done.
Remember , That was a very bad Bama team who got blown out by Arkansas, miss state even beat them.So not so sure Beamer was all that.

We have great recruiters. We need coaches. Coach Z needs to be moved away from WRs. Debord is no recruiting master and needs to retire. And, frankly, somebody needs to start asking some tough questions of Willie Martinez.

Again, we need COACHES. All that talent and we have underperformed every single game. We have yet to put a complete game together.

If you can't tackle, son, then you sit. If you can't cover this guy, son, then you sit. If you can't get off a block, son, you sit. If you can't remember your assignment every play, son, you sit. If you are not hungry enough and mean enough to knock the snot out of the man across from you, then you sit, son. If you are not strong enough to beat your man, son, you sit.

Etc., etc., etc.

To me, that's what "next man up" should mean to every single player; do your job or you will sit.

JUST STOP WITH THE GRUDEN AND TEE MARTIN POSTS...NEVER HAPPENING.

Also, Butch has us knocking on the door the school's first ten win season since 2008. And a chance to play in the SEC Championship.

There are different types of being soft. And we only heard a snippet of what Tee said. At this point, I would be interested in knowing what we did not hear.

Well I don't think Debord and Mahony are a big recruiters.

And since the number of 4 & 5* recruits has fallen off in recent years, a coaching change could be beneficial to recruiting.

Getting a QB...SUCH AS PEYTON MANNING....should help with recruiting QBs and WRs.

I don't know what kind of a recruiter Mark Elder was, but I would pay top $ to get him back on Special Teams.

Getting a top notch S&C would also be a boon for recruiting.

Bringing "The Closer" back would also help recruiting!

I have heard George Quarles from Maryville is a great recruiter...I know he would be a great position coach.

If we hired Gruden in 2-4 years it would be the same thing because he would go to the NFL first decent job he was offered. I have nothing solid to base that on JMO.

Why you say that. Gruden could of done had a NFL head coach job if he wanted one. Gruden did say Tennessee was his dream job. You need someone like him to compete with Saban. Just saying.
