My gut says it doesn't change much. But, when I think about it, I lean toward yes. I do not think that our defense is going to be where we need it to be to allow us to rely solely on our running game. We will need the ability to score in short drives in the second half by the time we get to the middle of our schedule and the late-game, mid-season blues hit our lack of defensive depth.
We only have 1 (legitimate) WR who has learned the offense as a WR since the new offense was installed - and that is Hancock. Warren was moved later and AR, Jones, and Moore will be unavailable, presumably. The freshman will have to keep it pretty vanilla, we won't be able to put them in too much motion or do too many special things with them, placing a reasonably significant limitation on the offense's ability to drive the field in time-critical situations.
I don't place a lot of faith in our offense's ability to win game for us when they have to score some points - but if Jone is gone for 6 weeks, it certainly doesn't help. I just don't have a good feeling about our defense (the staff is great, but the lack of depth and question marks at linebacker make me wonder how much they are going to be able to do), which doesn't make me feel good at all about our offense - we need to be able to run the ball a lot....and I'm not sure our defense will give us that ability as often as we would like.
