looks like Oklahoma State will be the opponent. All of the media in Oklahoma seems to think the Cowboys are a lack for Dallas.

It is Next Sunday at Noon.... and we are supposed to find out by late Wednesday or early Thursday where Tennessee is headed. Although their are multiple players who have changed their facebook or myspace status to something in relation to a specific bowl.... which in that case multiple players have something something in regards to "Cotton Bowl". So maybe just maybe the players and coaches have already found out something that the public knows nothing about.

Next Sunday is when they're all announced. I wouldn't be surprised if we heard something this week though. The SECCG has no bearing on the rest of the games.

Yeah, I bet we'd be selected for some bowl sometime before Sunday. I think for the two previous Outbacks, we were selected once on Sunday and once during the week, right?

It's definately a team out of the sooner state. Oklahoma has a shot at the cotton but I think they are going to either the Alamo or Holiday bowl

The Cotton and Outback are equivalent to each other.... except one represents the SEC West (Cotton) and other representing the SEC East (Outback)

I'm a bit confused here. Why wouldn't the Cotton pick LSU? I would think they would be a lock for the Cotton, while Ole Miss and Tennessee would almost be a lock for the Florida bowls.

Capitol One (Citrus) is higher up than Cotton/Outback which are equal (nowadays, not historically) so the Citrus will choose first and select LSU because they are highest ranked. Traditionally the Cotton selects a team from the West but because Ole Miss played there last year they may exchange picks with the Outback which would send Tennessee to Dallas, and Ole Miss to Tampa.

How do they match up the teams? Is the Cotton Bowl the Big 12's first tie-in after the BCS?

LSU is now most likely a lock for the Capitol One bowl since Ole Miss lost. Both teams were up for grabs with that bowl.... if both had won, Ole Miss would have gone there since they just beat LSU. But since they lost and LSU won then LSU is most likely a lock to go to Capitol One.

Oh, I keep thinking Cotton gets the first pick and is more prestigious than the other bowls.

Isn't the Cotton Bowl a more prestigious bowl then the others?

Per SECsports.com:

The winner of the SEC Championship Game will automatically participate in the Bowl Championship Series comprised of the Sugar, Rose, Orange and Fiesta Bowls.
The Capital One (2nd), will then make its pick following the BCS selections. The bowl must select the team with the next best overall record or a team within one win of the team with the next best overall record.

The Outback, Chick-fil-A and AT&T Cotton Bowls will work with the conference office to determine picks 3-5. The Cotton Bowl has the first preference of teams from the Western Division and the Outback Bowl has first preference of teams from the Eastern Division. The Cotton or Outback Bowl can select teams outside of its divisional preference, but must not select them before the opposite bowl selects from its divisional preference. The Chick-fil-A Bowl has the selection of preference following the Cotton and Outback Bowls.

In selections 6-7, the AutoZone Liberty and Gaylord Hotels Music City Bowls will make their selections, not in any specific order, but in consultation with the SEC Office. The Bowls will rank available qualified teams in order of preference. If there are no similarities in the order of selection, the bowls will be granted its selection. If the bowls rank the same teams in preference, the team involved in the process would get its preference of which bowl to participate.

The Petro Sun Independence Bowl will receive the eighth selection and the Papajohns.com Bowl will have the ninth selection of available SEC teams.

Historically the Cotton Bowl was very prestigious, but since the BCS came along and excluded it from the other "alliance bowls" it has fallen a bit. Now that it is in the new Cowboy's stadium for the foreseeable future, it wouldn't be surprising if it becomes included with the BCS bowls again soon.

Yes. It is equivalent to the SEC's Capitol One Bowl in terms of pecking order from the BIG XII pool of teams.
Which is why it's not a great idea to judge conference superiority by bowl season. The SEC's number 4 is playing the Big 12's number 2, and basically are playing on the road.

Very good point. Those bowl win trackers ESPN does every year are virtually pointless.
