If Heupel loses to Golesh today, is he officially on the hotseat?

I kind of think he is guys. A loss to your protégé with that Auburn team, plus it would be 3 straight SEC home losses, and an SEC record of 4-6 going back to last year. I cant see how he wouldnt be.
Doesn’t matter what his seat would be like tomorrow. No way to survive the rest of the season. Snowball will be rolling and gaining speed.

Fans will bitch but the university won’t evaluate anything till the end of the season….maybe next season.

Definitely, are we looking to be Pitt who edges out a big win every now and then, .... or are we Tennessee? A program that is supposed to compete for championships on a regular basis like Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Ohio State...etc. Then you get the, "if Huepel is let go (which isn't going to happen) who would we get?", well somebody that can coach and game as well as manage the clock. Somebody that has players disciplined enough where they aren't blowing big games on a regular basis with costly undisciplined penalties. Hey...here's a thought...this year against Alabama, lets not give them our annual pick 6 or scoop and score. We hang on to 2022 but Alabama, Georgia, and Florida have forgotten how many times that have beat our butts. Something has to eventually give unless the faction of mediocre fans we have accept it. Hueple has had enough time, lets see some results. I'll bet another QB has to come in today and win it today.

yeah but wouldn’t the same be true if Deboer loses to MSU today or if Drink had a bad home loss?

thats just the nature of the business. losing home games you aren’t supposed to lose is how people eventually get fired.

Imagine Danny would get a few calls. I guess it depends on how and why we lost. If Brandon goes down to injury maybe it buys him a bit of grace. That said if we lose to Auburn we’re in big trouble with our schedule. I think unless the year is just ridiculously awful he likely gets another year to right the ship. Might have to actually make a couple of staff changes though.

I do think it’s way early to think about any of this. We barely lost to Texas. He can fix things versus Auburn pretty easily.

Heupel won’t be on the hot seat if Brandon shows flashes this year in SEC play.

Now if Heupel starts blaming youth and inexperience at QB for losses, he will lose a lot of people because he singlehandedly chose this route to go at QB.

I only speak for myself - I don't care a damn about the hotseat if they lose today, I only care how they finish the season record-wise and performance-wise.

I would hate a loss today, I would think poorly of a loss today, absolutely, but if Tennessee still came out of 2026 with an 8-4 or 9-3 record, with the players coming back next year that they have invested in, then I don't care about today. Everything's been lining up for next year to be a big year. I am not cashing my chips out until I see how that goes.

I am sure many would want to crucify him. That's how it always is. People always react in the moment. Funny though. If they don't flag that big pass at the end of the Texas game, we'd probably be 4-0 and none of this hotseat talk would even be a thought in peoples' minds. That's sports for you. A funny, funny thing.

**EDIT** - DISCLAIMER - I 100% want the Vols to beat Auburn today and care if they win. My statement was made SOLELY in the context of "is Heupel on the hotseat?" A loss today, for me, would certainly warm it a little, but I would not call the seat hot. My point is that I would wait to see how the season played out before I used all-natural clean propane to increase the temperature of Coach Heupel's chair. Thanks. Go Vols.

Lifted from another thread, but this is approaching official IMO.

the numbers since November 2024:

-0-7 against ranked teams
-No wins against a P4 team with a winning record
-1 and 4 against SEC teams in Neyland Stadium
I mean it’s a problem. I’m not going to say everything is fine. But most likely barring something crazy he won’t feel any pressure till after the season. It’s very possible that Danny is still optimistic given the defense’s improvement that Heupel can fix the offense and get things on track.
