If Fulmer is fired..MH must hire the right guy

I have no faith in MH to make the right hire. The big money UT boosters need to take over this selection.

Hamilton picked Pearl, right? I'd rather him choose than boosters, possibly boosters that are friends with Fulmer. I would rather Hamilton hire someone with fresh blood as opposed to hiring a new Fulmer. Also, if the new coach has ties to the boosters, firing him may prove difficult if we needed to replace him.

This was touched on earlier but I want to put a little more emphasis on how absolutely vital it is that the next hire be a recruiter. As tireless a recruiter as Fulmer has been it's been harder to to obtain talent from these states that have upgraded their coaching. Going and stealing players from FL, GA, AL and LA is not what it used to be. Conversely there is a direct relationship in these schools keeping their talent level up without having to rely on recruiting the whole country. The following list is the number of 4-5* players Rivals has listed per state from '06-'09:

Ky-8
AR-17
TN-22
MS-32
SC-42
AL-49
LA-53
GA-82
FL-198

In last years class Rivals had AL, FL, GA & LA ranked 1, 3, 7 & 11 respectively. Over 60% of their 4* or better players were plucked out of their back yards. In our "great" '07 class Rivals had us at #3 with 16 4*+ players only 4 were from TN. Who was #1? FL with 20 4* or better players and 14 of them Meyer didn't even have to leave the state to sign.

We will not be keeping up with the Jones's if we get a good "coach" who can't recruit like crazy.

I absolutely agree. That's why I'm saying MH has to hire a big name. I hate to keep bringing it up, but Alabama is a perfect example to follow. Saban's first full year on the job produced a #1 recruiting class, even after a subpar season. He was able to pull this off because of who he is, not to mention he had a good program to sell to the recruits. TN has a good program to sell as well.
