If CJH Starts Faizon Brandon on Week 1, I Will...

I have read that he did have accuracy issues. if he does he will be another Milton at best. imo Accuracy is more important than arm strength.
I thought his accuracy was pretty good. However, he didn’t have to pass very often and defenses have to respect both his running and his passing. Talent just oozes out of him.

I expect the very basic against them at least on offense.
I kinda got the feeling the defense is gonna come out full throttle and send a message that UT defense is back and taking no prisoners
Vanilla, both sides of the ball. We’ve done this before, relax. 😎

Heupel is going to decide it in summer/fall camp. He is not going to split snaps. He will pick a QB and ride.

He rarely put second string in for any meaningful time in blowouts.
He's never been in this situation before, though. In the past he had guys with actual starting experience to choose for and they won the job. Now he's choosing between a guy thats a true freshman and a guy that got 18 snaps...and went 7-9 for 69 yards. Milton, Hooker and Joey all came into the team with starting experience and hundreds of snaps. Hooker had over 300 pass completions and 247 carries before he stepped on UT campus. Milton has 152 snaps and 50 carries. Joey had 850 snaps and 140 carries. They all had starting D1 experience vs P4/5 competition.

No matter what happens in the fall no one has any idea what either of them will do under the bright lights because they have never been there. Every other time, he had tape on them under those circumstances. So no, there is no comparable situation under him since he's been at UT, not even close. You have a cupcake came to open use that to get some tape on both. At the very least id give them both a few series in the first quarter and go from there. Hendon hooker lost out to Joe Milton because Milton looked better in practice but come gametime....certain things only come to light under the lights.

With Nico and Merk, Heupel made his choice from 2 guys with very few snaps and really never looked back from Nico.

That's somewhat similar to what we'll most likely see with G-Mac and Faizon unless Heupel is changing his ways.

For better or for worse, Heupel makes his call and goes with it so I don't think we'll see him change from that. JMO, but he's just not a guy who subs the QB that much even when we thought he should in the past.

You can’t compare those two scenarios. Nico was about to be a redshirt freshman former 5 star who started the Iowa game, looked great (at the time), and we literally went to the SCOTUS over him, Merklinger was about to be a true freshman former 4 star who hadn’t even had a single snap in college yet and we hadn’t put as much resources into his recruitment

Also Merklinger was the third stringer when there wasn’t even a quarterback battle in the first place

We definitely didn't go to SCOTUS over Nico, though we did get the TN AG involved, as I recall.

I'm not saying it's exactly the same scenario but I'm pointing out that even with guys with little experience, Nico and Merk, Heupel doesn't platoon QBs nor even "start one, then start the other."

I suspect Heupel wants his QB to believe that the coach and the team are behind the QB1 and that he's not being "scrutinized on every play for replacement."

If you start, then you get replaced as starter for the next game, it's obvious the coach doesn't believe you're the guy and you're still "under the microscope" for every play.

I don't think Heupel sees that as good for his QB's confidence and calmness under the gun of a game. And I agree.

I tend to agree with you. Which is why the 2027 season will find one of the two QBs playing elsewhere. Faizon will be playing the SEC somewhere. Gmac, he’ll be playing, but if he doesn’t start this year for us next year his playing in the SEC is in doubt imo.

If CJH Starts Faizon Brandon on Week 1, I Will...

.....look back at this thread and see how many other genius's predicted this momentous occasion.

I personally believe he will go with Faizon day 1 and ride with him all year..Let him learn and take his lumps this year and hopefully have our starting QB for atleast the next 3 years. I could see the one that loses out transferring out..I think Faizon's arm and running abilities win out. If Faizon has truly caught and passed GMac in 6 months, that should probably tell us one of 2 things. GMac has struggled to grasp the offense or both have grasped it and Faizon just gives us the best chance to win. An outside the box thinking could be Heupel knows the loser of the competition probably transfers out. Does he have one that he does not want to lose and see's one thriving more than the other over the next few years?

The situations are not even comparable. Merklinger has the equivalent of a good series of snaps. Nico played in 5 games, getting a decent amount of snaps in 3 (Uconn, Vandy and Iowa). Gmac got a few snaps vs ETSU and NMSU.
I feel like unless Faizon just runs away with it you have ot give both a look because a year in the system and some familiarity with the WR's isa big deal. Also, as I said before we have a cupcake before GT... that you time to figure it out because we gotta know by then. Lastly, if the 5-year rule thing sticks redshirting is no longer relevant.

I think he starts. No one knows and CJH tends to trick other coaches for a LIVING in case you haven't noticed he is his own version of a spurrier leach

You may feel like they both need a look but that's never been how Josh Heupel handles QBs. He names a starter and that's his guy.

We've noted in games when we thought Merk or G-Mac or even Nico should've gotten some more snaps, that's just not how Heupel rolls.

He will name a starter at some point and that's who will be our primary QB. In blowouts, QB2 and possibly QB3 gets some snaps.

I'd bet the farm that Josh Heupel won't change his starter unless he's injured or he's simply a complete disaster. That's just how he is as a coach.

Again he's never been in this situation at UT with 2 QB's with 0 starts.. and almost no snaps between them. GMAC only has full-on garbage-time 3rd-string snaps.
You never know what a QB looks like in-game until you see them there, especially at this level.

All 3 QB’s will play , it really doesn’t matter who starts against Furman
I don't think so, only way you see all 3 is because of injury. You maaaay see 2 in the first game but seeing how both don't have playing time, you're going to want your QB1 to get as many reps as possible with OL, Backs and WRs to build some type of cadence.
I know GT lost some people but I'm not willing to put them in cupcake territory, SEC play is coming hard and fast this year with TX being our first and they're going to be battle tested because they play OH before us.
We need our guys clicking

IMO, it's not good coaching to tell a guy, "You're starting this week and I'm watching to see if you're my man." It's just not the way to win the SEC portion of the schedule later.

Pick a QB, give him all your practice reps and game reps and support to build a strong team for when the hard games come.

Heupel gets paid to evaluate talent and, yeah, you can't know 100% if G-Mac or Faizon is "a gamer" (just as we saw with Hooker....... even though he HAD lots of film and experience from VT,) but it's not good team building to have the QB be a question mark position. It's just not.

Heupel won't do it. He'll roll from game 1 with his guy until he's forced by injury or abysmal play to make a change.
