Derek Dooley should lose all support from this fan base.

Can you tell me the last time an SEC champion ranked dead last in rushing yards per game in the SEC?

Here, I did the research for you:

2011: Alabama/LSU - 1st/4th
2010: Auburn - 1st
2009: Alabama - 3rd
2008: Florida - 1st
2007: LSU - 2nd
2006: Florida - 2nd
2005: Georgia - 3rd
2004: Auburn - 2nd

This team will not ever compete for a conference championship with Chaney running the offense. I don't care if we have Bray, Hunter, Rogers, and Patterson if we can not run the ball, we will not win. Period.

Chaney has proven beyond a shadow of a doubt over the last three years that he cannot develop a run game in the SEC. Tennessee rushing yards per game in the SEC under Chaney:

2009: 9th
2010: 12th
2011: 12th

Chaney in his career has averaged 138 rushing yards per game.

The team that finishes 6th in the SEC, over the past 8 years, has averaged 157 yards per game.

The team that finishes 3rd in the SEC, over the past 8 years, has averaged 189 yards per game.

Where do you think Chaney's teams are going to fall consistently looking at these numbers?

A change has to be made. The end. :hi:

We lost our two best players on offense just as we were starting to find a running game. Defenses only have to key on the run now that we have ZERO downfield threat. It's hard to run the ball when the defense has eight guys in the box.

The End.

Stupid post.

Care to elaborate? Is it your opinion we can win the SEC without one of the top rushing attacks? Or is it your opinion Jim Chaney is capable of developing a run game? What on gods green earth would lead you to believe either of those are true?

A lot of excuses can be made for this team, that are valid. I have yet to see one for being out-rushed 2x by Vandy. Clue me in.

We entered the season with the strategy of stretching the field with Hunter, using Rogers as a possession receiver, and running draws out of the shot gun when ever teams backed up the safeties to help cover both receivers. Losing Hunter was probably just as bad as losing Bray for this offense. The entire offense was keyed on Hunter keeping the safeties deep and Rogers single covered. Like it or not but this O-line is too young and inexperienced to be able to get much push against 8 man fronts.

The sole reason this team has not played to its optimum ability over the past two years is because of freak injuries. Otherwise this team would have won 3 sec championships over that timeframe. duh.

This offensive line is leaps and bounds better than Vandys, any way you want to slice it.

Vandy: Rushing ypg - 167
Tennessee: Rushing ypg - 82

Vandy: Rushing yards vs Georgia - 199
Tennessee: Rushing yards vs Georgia - -20

First, you used 2009 as an example. That year we didn't use Jim Chaney's system, and he didn't even call plays. So, that was stupid.

Next year, we bring back every running back that actually has talent and return the entire offensive line. And, with the return of all of our playmakers on the perimeter, teams will be forced to try to defend our passing game first, which I think will open more lanes to run in.

Even with Hunter and Bray in the beginning of the season we could barely run the ball.
