I mean the Univerisity of Minnesota rejected him before Al Davis embraced him.

Are we making a hire that was created in large part because of the decision making skills of an aged Al Davis?

Al Davis also hired a young Mike Shanahan, and Jon Gruden. He's just made some terrible hires, huh.

Of course that was not my point, but since you brought it up its worth pointing out that Gruden had an almost .600% winning percentage at the Raiders (vs. Kiffin's .333%) and Shanahan wente back to being an NFL assistant for 6 years after winning .400% of his games for the Raiders.

If a tree falls in the woods.... Who cares? He's our new coach and has the potential for greatness. Get behind it, we needed young blood and we got it. I am way past ready for a change in Tennessee football. Tomorrow is the end of an era and I am ready for next year. Go Vols!

The Raiders were actually close to becoming a decent team whenever Davis fired Kiffin. Davis was just mad because it sounds like Kiffin actually stood up to him and called his bluff on a few issues. Anyone that shows any kind of ability to be bigger than Al Davis in the Raider organization will be quickly cut off as long as he is king. Davis is a fanatical dictator who will never allow the Raiders to have a solid program while he sits cluelessly at the helm.

Gruden's Raiders team >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Kiffin's.

Sure, fine. Its besides the point. Gruden had 9 years of NFL experience before he was plucked by Davis to coach the Raiders.
Kffin spent 3 or 4 years as a position coach at USC before being promoted to co-OC for 2 years before being rejected by the Universiyt of Minnesota when Al Davis made him a big name.
Maybe we would have hired the co-OC from USC after Minnesota rejected him, if Al Davis hadn't hired him, but I don't think so.

I am so pumped for a new era I think I blew off my Fulmer mold. The new century looks better all the time. Young new blood... I will settle down now. If coach Kiffin does not succeed then we will find someone who will. For now, go Kiffin, and welcome to Knoxville.

FYI....Gruden was 16-16 (.500) after his 2nd year. You don't know how Kiffin would have finished his 2nd year

Hell, Kiffin's resume should proudly proclaim in bold print at the top:

Fired by Al Davis-Oakland Raiders, 2008

There are very few better indicators of future success.

So 423, how do you feel about Kiffin?

Cowher was my #1 choice, but I knew all along that there was very, very little chance of ever landing him.

I like the selection of Kiffin, and if he brings his father along with him then I LOVE the selection.

I saw glimpses of this on SportCenter, but never really gave any credence to it as I was not expecting CLK to be our new coach. However, after watching Al Davis in his interview after firing CLK I did not realize that he was THIS BIG of a loon!! Video can be seen here: NFL Video Galleries

One thing that really struck at me was how Al Davis hammered CLK on trying to sign Javon Walker and Deangelo Hall. Weren't these some good players? It wasn't like Kiffin was trying to sign some dogs or anything. In a decent organization these would have been the Pro Bowl players they would have normally been.

#2: CLK mot wanting to draft JaMarcus Russell. I agree with that. At LSU Russell did not show me much of anything to be a NFL QB except for a MONSTER arm. His lack of reading a defense left a lot to be desired IMO. I could be wrong on this one, but I was not overly impressed with him. And I knew Jason White was awful before nobody in the NFL would even sign him to run their scout team, so I really try to not buy into hype.

Dispute me as bad as the CLK haters want to, the only knock you have on him is his resume in Oakland, and after watching Al Davis $*!+ out of his mouth, I don't know of anyone that could have worked for him, even the mighty Urban Meyer, Nick Saban, Mark Richt, and even Pete Carroll for that matter.

I would have loved for CPF to be here still, there is nothing more than I would love for CPF to win his 2nd MNC in 2009, but realistically it was not going to happen, and the trends are not in his favor, so time to move on. And no, I was not a Kiffin lover from the beginning, and would have rather had Leach (provided he could hire some grade A assistants to recruit). But I will support Kiffin 100% and hope he succeeeds and we do not have a coaching search in like 3 years as some poeple say.

Vol Nation,
Thank you for your time and hammer away

It's no secret that Al Davis is deranged when it comes to running his Oakland Raiders how he wants to.

As I recall, the Raiders released him (Hall) this year midway through their season. He was a cancer on the Falcons team - a bit of a head case.

Look, Kiffin had the Raiders competive. That's an A+ for the job right there.

What is your point in repeatedly bringing up Minnesota. They hired a guy with no head coaching experience who is 8-14 in 2 seasons.Maybe they should have hired Kiffin.

Hall was never a pro bowl player, I think he looked a lot better than he was in Atlant because of the other corners. He has top tier speed but doesn't have the instincts to be an elite corner.

Having said that he was good enough to start in Oakland his problem there was he was playing opposite the best corner in the league and it exposed him a little.
