IMO this deal spares the victims families of the possibility of a not guilty verdict, trials are unpredictable. It also spares them of the possibility of his conviction being overturned on a technicality. He should have to make a public confession with all of the details including the why, not just admit to being guilty of the crime.

Some attention seeker will probably off him with a mop handle in a couple of years. It will work itself out

I think there's a good possibility his defense was going to trash these kid's names because apparently they had quite the party house. It's possible the prosecutor felt a jury might see a place for doubt because lots of people apparently partied there and were in and out of the place.

Also, in defense of the roommate who failed to call the police, I think that too is a side effect of living in a huge party house. Screams, loud noises, random people walking by in the hall, etc sounds much like lots of houses I visited in Ft Sanders in the 70s. If you lived there you probably adopted a "that sounded crazy but every other Thursday sounds about like that" attitude.
