I would hate to be Coach Jones..

I truly think they should both be in together..

So many things you can do..

Have either carry and the other lead block..

Play action and have one swing out and the other block for dobbs..

Adds another option in the "option"

Would be a nightmare for defenses..

And when one is tired etc...Kelly comes in

It would have been my offense from the start of the year.

WR: Jennins/Byrd..with malone and a TE switching in and out per formation

RB: Hurd and Kamara

Then Dobbs.. That is 6 major play makers a defense has to account for on every play..that means most they could ever rush you with is 4 without pulling a safety and being susceptible to a huge touchdown play..

Agree 100%. It should be the OC putting them in the right situation/play based on their skill set. They should all play. I think Hurd best fits Debord comfort zone of play calling ... "Pound them into submission". However, he's certainly shown he can open up the play book and be very sucessful with Kamara (Hurd, etc.) The question is, can he convince himself that this will work week in and week out? We'll find out when Hurd comes back.

I think Kamara and Kelly both earned more playing time. It's a good problem to have but, because Hurd takes more of a beating, I would give Kamara 50% of the carries, Hurd 35% and Kelly 15%. But, then again, I've never coached a game in my life so who cares.
Neither have most of us on here but it doesn't stop us from knowing what's best for the VOLS. :)

Personally, I think the most important thing that happened was that we got to see John Kelly go against 1's.

I think this opens up the possibility to use Hurd and Kamara in the same formation a lot more. We've had a lot of success the limited times we've used them as split backs, but now that you are certain you have a pretty good third option who can play to give both of those guys a breath I think you can run it a lot more.

The aTm game was great for a lot of reasons. We got to see a lot of young guys step up to the plate and perform, like Kelly. It can only help.

Depending on what the injury situation is with Hurd, I would start Kamara and Kelly in a 2 back set against Alabama and let Hurd take his time in getting healthy for the stretch run of this season.

I believe we had 6 fumbles and lost 5.
We've had 21 fumbles in the 6 games.
Croom mishandled a ball right in his hands (as usual), and Dobbs inerception ( horrible decision), ending the game plus 5 fumbles. Good luck beating bad teams, let alone undefeated ones with those stats. We are like Donald Trump, we are our own worst enemy.

You now are at a real cross road... Do you pull Hurd to second string? Everyone just saw what AK did against a good defense when given the opportunity to showcase himself. John Kelly did superb as well.

Having everyone see what transpired, that AK elevated this offense to levels they haven't been able to obtain minus the turnovers of course. Hurd has fumbled several times himself so we can't say that's a difference really.

Butch has to look in the mirror and make a decision for the rest of the season... Especially next week. Do we take our tried and true back who has carried the load and honestly helped put Tennessee football back on the map?

Or... Does he take the man who given his first start just racked up the most all purpose yards of any player in 20 years and place him in the starting position?

In my own opinion I think the only thing he can do is list 1a and 1b. Giving Kamara more touches than he's had and include John Kelly more. We should be utilizing him anyways later in the game when the defense is tired out. Fresh Kelly vs a tired defense could be a big deal...

I just think especially next week... AK NEEDS to be more involved. It's against his old team and he will be wanting to send a message. Then again... Hurd could have the game of his life next week to prove that he deserves to be number one.

Eitherway... We have an incredibly stacked roster. GBO!

Hurd sure had a good game against them last year. Too bad there's only one ball.

I wouldn't mind being Butch Jone$. It's really an easy decision. 60/40 in favor of Kamara. If nothing else go 50/50. I would for sure give Kamara more carries this week vs bama since Hurd is coming of an injury and Kamara will play motivated against a team that didn't want him.

I have been saying all along after watching Hurd for 2 years now is that he has NO cutback ability as he is strictly a REALLY GOOD down hill runner. If you look at some of Kamara's run where he went into the hole but had "quick feet" and adjusted and shook the defensive player in the hole. And I think Hurd just usually runs straight into the defender then goes down..................

After everything Hurd has been through with this team, it would be hard to yank him, but we can't afford another loss, though it's likely either way. This teams goal is the SEC. We need to play who ever gives us the better chance. Hurd is a beast. I love the kid, but seeing AK and JK go off like that, it's hard not to play them guys if you really want to win. With that said aTm is not as good as we made them look and I don't think their defense is rated very high at all. So it could be a coincidence?
