You now are at a real cross road... Do you pull Hurd to second string? Everyone just saw what AK did against a good defense when given the opportunity to showcase himself. John Kelly did superb as well.

Having everyone see what transpired, that AK elevated this offense to levels they haven't been able to obtain minus the turnovers of course. Hurd has fumbled several times himself so we can't say that's a difference really.

Butch has to look in the mirror and make a decision for the rest of the season... Especially next week. Do we take our tried and true back who has carried the load and honestly helped put Tennessee football back on the map?

Or... Does he take the man who given his first start just racked up the most all purpose yards of any player in 20 years and place him in the starting position?

In my own opinion I think the only thing he can do is list 1a and 1b. Giving Kamara more touches than he's had and include John Kelly more. We should be utilizing him anyways later in the game when the defense is tired out. Fresh Kelly vs a tired defense could be a big deal...

I just think especially next week... AK NEEDS to be more involved. It's against his old team and he will be wanting to send a message. Then again... Hurd could have the game of his life next week to prove that he deserves to be number one.

Eitherway... We have an incredibly stacked roster. GBO!

I say keep Hurd "starting" and have AK have a way bigger role in our offense and have JK have about 5 touches a game.

If they let Hurd run downhill he'd be more productive. 240 pounders aren't as effective running east to west.

How long has it been since we had a good controversy at a key position? :)

The coach gets paid the big bucks to decide what will work best against Alabama. I personally like the fact that he has choices.

I saw the first Dobbs "fumble". Then the Kamara fumble after long run. Had to attend a wedding. Who else fumbled and how many times?

I believe there were 5. Kelly fumbled - looked to be a bad exchange between he and Dobbs. Berry fumbled on a punt return. I can't remember what the 5th was.

I was surprised that they did not review the fumble on the sack of Dobbs. I"m still not sure the tackler ever touched the ball.

I think Kamara and Kelly both earned more playing time. It's a good problem to have but, because Hurd takes more of a beating, I would give Kamara 50% of the carries, Hurd 35% and Kelly 15%. But, then again, I've never coached a game in my life so who cares.

Yes, I agree on the Dobbs fumble. Wish they had reviewed that one. My wife heard the Evan Berry fumble on a kickoff. Thought I heard somewhere that Kelly fumbled one. So, we are missing one.

Amazing they stayed close with that many turnovers.

Good grief we're quick to kick people to the curb.
Kamara is a great back in this offense but Hurd has been warrior and has made some big plays himself - Jalen runs hard and fights for yards, and has made a lot of yards with guys hanging off him. And on the matter of fumbles, Kamara has fumbled too, including a big one in the A&M game that would have changed the complexion of the fight. They've all fumbled at times. It's not specific to one person.

I don't understand all this Hurd chatter. Kamara sets records against a defense that gave up almost 700 yards to Tennessee as a team, and all of a sudden we want to change everything. Seriously. Hurd is a workhorse and takes a lot of hits trying to follow the plays he's assigned. Yes, I think Kamara is a great fit, but I would rather feature them both and stop worrying about who's better.

I absolutely hate the first down, slow developing run play with Hurd. He takes about 3 steps to get up and going. I bet the season average in that play is like 1.5 yards or so. I literally just go crap every time we run it. But with kamara it works much better. He's able to elude the first tackler almost every time. And that's what's required. Hurd never eludes a tackler

How much of that is the play call versus the runner's read? We ran the same basic QB read option yesterday and for the most part the backs took the ball between the tackles...

Byrd and Jennings outside. Kamara in the slot with Hurd and Kelly lined up on either side of Dobbs. Death squad.

I believe we had 6 fumbles and lost 5.
We've had 21 fumbles in the 6 games.

Yes, I looked at the box score stats. They show 6 fumbles; 5 lost.

So I know that Dobbs, Kamara, Kelly and Berry all had one lost fumble. Who had the other one?

Heard something about a receiver who had a ball pop away from him. Wolf maybe? Was that a fumble?

Croom missed a tough catch that got intercepted off the tip

Mid-year lineup change:
#1 RB: Kamara
#2 RB: Kelly
#1 TE/FB: Hurd

Guys, Hurd is just not a natural RB, he's a pounder, can get 3-4 yards when you need it, but he has no hip move, no burst of speed, no shiftiness that will allow him to take it to the house. Hurd's longest run of the year is 18yds, Kamara's is what 60+?? Hurd will not be a RB in the NFL, he will be a TE. Move him now-- he can catch it, and block like crazy, and he will be rewarded on draft day, either this year or next.
