I love FULMER. He is tennessee to me. I love that he wins most of the games we arent expected to win. i love his loyalty to THE BIG ORANGE. i love the fact that he does it the right way, and i love the tradition he has helped mold which still brings 100k plus on gamedays. it is so obvious to me... a true vol fan , that he has more than earned his own way out when HE decides to call it quits. Thats my take GO VOLS

I appreciate it what Phil has done at UT, and he seems like a good person he enjoys fishing and fried food I can relate to that.

But do I think he should be able to leave when we wants: ala Paterno or Bowden? NO and it shouldnt have gotten to that point here or there

Not flaming just trying to set the record straight. Joe Pa is Penn State, Bobby Bowden is Florida State, Tom Osborne is Nebraska. Over long tenures each of those coaches built these programs from the ground up.

Phil Fulmer brought home the Sears trophy, but he is just another spoke in the wheel. He is not "Tennessee football."

the univesity has done just as much for Fulmer as he has done for the university. he is a millionaire, with a NC ring and a college degree. very few, here, questions his character or values. it is about the ability to evolve with the game. he deserves another year for leading us to the SECCG. however, next year, i doubt we will be getting any help from UF or UG. if Fulmer can get us the SEC crown, he should stay. if he cant, he needs to go.

That is really the heart of the issue. Very good point OPJ.

And has lost a ton of games against teams with equal/lesser talent.

Is it that, or is the fact that we aren't supposed to beat UK, SC, Arky and Georgia anymore?

You've put your finger on it. You and I will be talking about those 4 games from this season for the next 20 years. They were memorable, epic matches that will be ranked right up there with Arky 1998, The Miracle @ South Bend, Florida 2001, and FSU 1998.

What games is he winning that he isn't expected to win?

There were about 100,000 fans going to games before Fulmer became head coach.

I think 99% of us here are true Vol fans, whether they carry Fulmer's jock or not. Otherwise we would have jumped ship a long time ago.

Why waste your breath on these homer's. They would have some valid point even if phil went 0-12. They are the blind leading the blind and happy about it, .

A useless bad comment. He at least is telling how feels. Because you do not like it you slam him.

You won't get flamed by me!

Fulmer is the freaking man. He brought home the National Championship and had us looking FANTASTIC in the championship game this year.

The insurgencies from losing gamblers, ala and va tech fans, and fair weather 90 fans are laughable to me.

We are Tennessee. I have never been prouder to be a Vol.

GO VOLS!!!

I hate to lose to Fla. every year. This to me is simply not being prepared. As for Phil, he's ok. He needs better personnel around him, if he wishes to continue to win the important games (Fla. for sure).

I'm with you on this all the way to the last statement. Phil is coming off winning the east so he's still improving over 2005, but he doesn't control his own destiny. He lives UT football, but he is not bigger than the program. He bought himself more time as the coach, but it's not a lifetime contract.

I think the correct way to look at it is next year UF and UGA won't be getting any help from us.

But it is a contract until 2014 which is too much for UT to buyout anytime soon. So unless PF decides to step down he probably isn't going anywhere for 2-3 years at least. Which I'm fine with personally because I feel we will make a strong NC run either next year or 2009

Phil Phulmer: the greatest coach in the history of college football, no--all of football--no, make that all of sports!

agree with lex. he is not Tennessee football. he did not "make" this program. he is/was part of the continuation of it.

and at this point, it doesn't matter if we like or dislike it, he will continue to be part of it regardless.

Jake, you hit the nail on the head. I have resigned myself to the reality that Phil is on the Hill as long as he wants to be, or at least as long as Mike Hamilton's the AD. I cant even find the energy to get mad about anymore.

This is a positive for me. I now have a good chance every year now of a very short drive to watch the Vols in a bowl game. As I do this year. Thanks MH.

I'm all for you loving UT football and can understand your admiration for Fulmer, but I can't understand even remotely what makes you believe the highlighted portion above. That could not be further from the truth.
