We were planning on just trying to watch through the fence, but we soon found out it was open to the public. We got there at about 4:30, so practice was already half over, but still got to see lots of good stuff.
When I got there, they were doing 11 on 11. Crompton seemed to be doing okay today. Stephens didn't look that good. He threw a couple INTs, one returned for a TD. Art Evans made an amazing one-handed INT at one point. It was awesome. Stephens also got sacked 3 times that I saw.
Later, after a 5 minute water break, they did 7 on 7 at one end of the field, and looked like the O and D-line were practicing pass rush/protection on the opposite side of the field. Crompton and Stephens both looked much more comfortable in 7 on 7. (I guess anyone would, but these guys seriously need to stop playing so scared in 11 on 11). Seems like they made lots of good throws during this drill. Warren made 2 or 3 great catches. They threw to him A LOT. He did have one drop that I saw. After another 5 minute water break, they went back to 11 on 11.
Luke Stocker also made some good grabs. He also had one drop. At one point Hardesty dropped a short pass and you could tell he was pissed at himself. He threw the ball hard on the ground afterward.
Jones caught a long TD pass at one point and then slam dunked the football in the goalpost.
Oku is a beast. He was awesome today. It seemed like every play was going to him and he delivered. At one point near the very end of practice, a defender tackled him at his knees. Oku didn't like that at all. He shoved the guy hard when they got up and a fight almost broke out. The coaches cooled them off quickly though.
I saw Poole's injury. He looked like he was in alot of pain, but the trainer was just massaging his calf. Hopefully that's a sign that it was just cramps, but I don't know if they cart people off the field for cramps...:ermm:
I don't think Brown played at all when I was there, but then later I heard he had a concussion so that explains it.
If there's any other questions you have about practice, feel free to ask. Hopefully I can answer. In the meantime, I heard practice was open at Neyland Stadium tomorrow, but I don't know what time. I know all practices have been at 2:45, but I didn't know if Saturday's time would be different.
GO VOLS!
